GAA U-14 Final

Southern Gaels played Northern Gaels in Newtowncashel and enjoyed a great win on a scoreline of 9-15 to 7-6. Southern Gaels: Conor Skelly, Liam Galvin, Eoin Mulvihill, Colin Cousins, Craig Gorman, Conor Casey, Dylan Farrell, Loughlin Healy, Jamie Bermingham, Peter Nolan, Brian Belly. Iarla Dolan, David Sweeney, Mark Brehon, Mossy McDermott. Mentors: Gary Cosgrove, Aidan Cousins, Syl Healy and Seamus Birmingham.

GAA U-16 Final

Southern Gaels defeated St Vincent’s (Drumlish) in Newtowncashel by 5-18 to 0-7. Well done to all the players, trained by Barry Cox and mentored by Sean Casey, Jack Healy and Colman Lee.

St Christopher’s

The Newtowncashel Branch of St Christophers Longford wish to thank everyone who contributed to their recent Churchgate collection. Also,the members of the branch, who took up the collection. A sincere thanks to one and all.


Longford Federation ICA are holding a Craft Fair and Floral Display in the Temperance Hall Longford on Saturday, July 5 starting at 10am. There will be lots of crafters with jewellery making and basket weaving demonstrations, also a cafe with some delicious home baking. Irish TV are coming to film the event. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Cemetery Sundays

Saint’s Island Cemetery, August 24. Cashel Cemetery, August 31. These masses will replace the 10.30am mass in the Church.

Pattern Day

Pattern Day will be celebrated at Lady well, Derrydarragh, on Saturday, September 6. Mass follows recitation of the Rosary. This mass will replace the Saturday evening mass in the Church.

Tidy Towns

Newtowncashel Tidy Towns Committee holds it’s monthly meeting in The Hill, this Wednesday, July 2 at 8.30pm. Once again, all are asked to be vigilant with regard litter disposal and control.

Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival Committee will meet in Gav’s Bar,this Friday night July 4 at 9pm. It is important that all members attend.

On Sunday, July 13, a sponsored 5k Walk takes place along the Grand Canal, Kenagh, commencing at 12noon.

Finally,a table quiz, will be held in The Chestnut Tree, Killashee, on Friday, July 25 at 9pm. Entry fee is €40 per table.


We extend congratulations to both Marie Collins and Hugh O’Kane, who were married last Friday, June 27.

Pastoral Council

A meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council, takes place in The Hill on Wednesday, July 9 at 8.30pm.

Community Games

Well done to the U-11 Basketball team on reaching the Leinster Final last weekend. This was a tremendous achievement, and well done to all concerned.
