Mens Shed
The Men’s Shed will resume on Wednesday 14th next from 7 to 10pm in The Technical School. We wish to express our thanks to all who supported us at the Trade Fair and the Table Quiz.  A special word of thanks must go to Noel Sweeney and Maureen Martin for the successful way in which they organised the Table Quiz and to Cathy & Ciarán Smyth for the use of their premises.  In 2014 The Men’s Shed were successful in securing a Caretaker to look after the Technical School and we would like to thank Willie for ensuring the upkeep of the premises and grounds. New members are always welcome to come along any Wed night from 7 to 10pm.

Darts
There was a great crowd in the Poor Scholar last Friday night to see the first semi-final of the Francis McGirl Memorial Cup. The semi-finalists were McGirl’s and Quinn’s, and after a very close and exciting contest which could have gone either way, McGirl’s came out on top on a score line of (5) games to (4). Thanks to David McCabe and staff at the Poor Scholar for refreshments and sponsorship of the raffle, thanks to everyone for supporting the raffle. Thanks to Ciaran Hearty, Ian Flynn, Cyril Smith and Michael Hearty for marking and calling the games also thanks to Terry and Catherine for looking after the raffle. The second semi-final will be played next Friday night the 16th January between Ossie’s and the Poor Scholar, the venue for that game is Drumcoura starting time 10.30pm

First Ulsters GAA Club

‘Ballyconnell First Ulsters’ were founded in 1885 by John Alex Clancy and Thomas O’Reilly and were the first G.A.A. football club to have been founded in Ulster. Thomas O’Reilly was the first chairman of the club and was also the first team captain. Very little is known about John Alex Clancy as he died in 1890 at a very young age. Thomas O’Reilly lived all of his life in the Ballyconnell area and was very active in both politics and the social life of the community. He was a member of Bawnboy District Council and was Chairman of the Board of Guardians of Bawnboy Workhouse. He was also Chairman of Cavan County Council for some time. A framed photograph of John Alex Clancy and Thomas O’Reilly is now being displayed in Ballinamore Library as the January ‘Picture of the Month’. Opening hours are Mon, Wed & Fri 10 - 5.30; Tues & Thur 10 - 8; Sat 10 – 5, with daily lunch closing 1.30 – 2.30pm.

Church news
A Gentle Reminder: It would be much appreciated if dues and offertory and other contributions for 2014 were brought up to date. The weekly offertory contributions go towards the upkeep of the Churches and the monthly dues contributions provide the salaries for the priests of the parish. Thanking everyone who contributed so generously during 2014,also for your co-operation. Acknowledgements for 2014 contributions will be sent out in due course. If you are paying by cheque would you be kind enough to use a separate cheque for offertory and dues contributions as they have different account numbers. Cheques for offertory collection should be made payable to Ballinamore Church or Aughnasheelin Church which ever applies, and for Dues cheques should be made payable to Priests Revenue Account. It would also be much appreciated when making your contribution to outside collections for e.g Mission Sunday, that you would use the envelope provided in your box for this purpose. Thanking you for your co-operation. If you have not collected your Parish Calendar and envelopes for your offertory and dues contributions for 2015 would you kindly do so , as the envelopes are now in use from this weekend on. They are available for collection in Church porch. Thanks to all who have already done so. If you are new in the Parish or your name is not included please contact Fr. Sean.
