Pride of Place

Rathowen Community will be representing Westmeath in the 2014 Pride of Place Competition and the Judges will be here on Tuesday, August 19 for a morning inspection.

All community groups are attending a meeting every Tuesday evening up to the day of the competition at 7.30pm in the Community Centre and all residents of the community are ask to help. Please come to the meeting and see how you can help Rathowen win this award an award the Community deserves and can win when everyone comes out and puts their shoulder behind the wheel.

Take a look at your houses and fences and grass and see how it could be improved, were asking for 1 hour of help a week for the weeks leading up to the day of the competition and then all to attend a great celebration and presentation of our Community on the day.

Rathowen is a great place to live, the people living here are the reason its a great place to live, lets prove that on Tuesday, August 19 with a celebration that these two judges will never forget.

Streete Vintage Rally

Sunday, July 13 in Kilmore Streete, and on July 12, the Philip Moran Tractor Run.

Table Quiz

There will be a table quiz in Tormey’s of Bun on Friday, July 4 at 9.30pm for Bun Scor. Tables of four cost €20.


‘Work4You’ set up by Acquired Brain Injury Ireland provides a free vocational assessment service for individuals who have an acquired brain injury and would like assistance and guidance in returning to work, training or education. Work4You are holding a Pop-Up Information Stand in Drumlish Library on Monday 7th July 7 from 10.30am – 12.30pm and Lanesboro Library on Monday, July 7 from 2 - 4pm. All are welcome. St Mary’s NS

The organising committee for Padraig’s retirement would like to thank everyone who was involved in Padraig’s retirement celebration. A huge thank you to all who supported this event. We were delighted to see the amount of people who came to join in the celebrations. It was very much appreciated.

Won Car

Many congratulations to Anthony Maguire who won a car in the Credit Union draw.


Numbers drawn were 5, 10, 16 and 19. There was no jackpot winner. The draw winners were Cyril O’Connor, Rodgers Family and Tommy McGuinness. Sellers prize Gregory Duffy. Jackpot next draw will be €3.400 and the draw will be held in Connaughton’s Pub.

DVD Available

The DVD of the retirement function held for Padraig Flynn are now available. Contact Geraldine Connaughton.

Mass times

During the month of July the Saturday 6pm mass will be in Rathowen and the Sunday 11am mass will be in Boherquill.
