Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Monday, 5th January 2015. The Jackpot was €7,700. Numbers drawn 6 / 16 / 22 / 28 – no winner. €50 each Arva Ladies GAA, Brían Cully, Fair Green, John Leddy, River View. The Jackpot on Monday night last was €7,750. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website www.arvagfc.com AGM: The annual general meeting of St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club was held on Sunday last in the Breffni Arms Hotel with a large attendance. All reports were adopted and the activities of the past year were discussed. It was great for the club to have 3 Cups on display along with the Medals and Awards won by some of our players during the year. We will give the full details in next weeks paper.
Dinner Dance: The Club will hold their Dinner Dance on Saturday 14th February in the Breffni Arms Hotel and tickets will be on sale from club officers. This should be a fantastic night of celebration after the year we had and the League and Championship medals will be presented on the night. Make a note of the date and get your tickets early. Arva Ladies GAA Club are holding their Annual General Meeting this on Sunday 18th January 2015 at 5.00 pm in the Breffni Arms Hotels, Arva. This committee have been working hard over the past number of years and we appeal to anyone with an interest to come along and show your suport. U 21: The St Josephs U-21 Championship winning team will be in action in the Bank of Ireland Paddy Mc Larnon U 21 Ulster Championship which is organised by Kickhams Creggan GAC, Belfast on this Sunday at 2 o’clock. St Josephs will play Culyhanna, Co Armagh. Cavan U 21 team played Kerry in the Hastings Cup in Emo, Portlaoise on Saturday last where they were defeated convincingly on the day. Cavan had 11 changes to the team that started the previous week as the \management team try to give all the players a game and a chance to stake a claim for a place in the Ulster Championship. Ciaran Brady, Jonathan Mc Cabe and Conal Sheridan all started but unfortunately Jonathan had to go off injured at half time. We hope he will not be out of action for too long and look forward to seeing him back when he has recovered. Cavan will play Roscommon on this Saturday – venue to be confirmed. Cavan Seniors: In the Dr Mc Kenna Cup Cavan travelled had Ulster University as visitors to Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday evening last where they were defeated by a point after a tough encounter. Most of the second half was played during a snowfall which did not help either side. James Morris made his debut at half time and gave a good account of himself in the second half. They now meet Monaghan on tonight Wednesday in Kingspan Breffni Park at 8.00 pm in what should be a stirring encounter. Let’s get out and support the team tonight.

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association will hold their annual church gate collection in County Cavan on this weekend – Saturday 17th / Sunday 18th January. Your generous support will be much appreciated.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Josephine Sorohan, Cordonaghy, Arva on the death of her brother Mr Thomas Donohoe, Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy which occurred on Sunday, 4th January at Cavan General Hospital. His remains were removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran on Monday with Requiem Mass on Tuesday followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

The Breffni Kickers Line Dancing Classes will resume this Thursday night 15th January in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. So get those dancing shoes ready for nights of fun and craic in a friendly atmosphere.
