Road Traffic Collision
Units from Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service were called out to deal with a single vehicle road traffic collision which took place on the Castlepollard/Coole Road approximately one mile from Castlepollard, at around 4.50pm on Sunday. Traffic flow was interrupted for a period of time while firefighters recovered the vehicle from the ditch. Gardai were in attendance, and no injuries were reported.
Late Mrs Mary Daly
The entire North Westmeath community was saddened to learn of the death, which took place peacefully on Thursday, June 26 at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore of Mrs Mary Daly (nee McCormack), Archerstown, Delvin, and formerly of Glann, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at her home on Friday, June 27 between 3 and 9 pm, and removal took place on Saturday morning, June 28 to St Bartholomews’ Church, Killalon. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 11am, and interment took place afterwards to Archerstown Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
The deceased was a member of an old respected family, and will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her loving husband John, son Kieran, mother Ann, sisters Elizabeth and Eileen, brothers John, Liam and Michael, aunt, uncle, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives and wide circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Yankee Party Weekend
Castlepollard Celtic Soccer Club are celebrating their 10th anniversary with a Yankee Party Weekend from Friday night, July 4, with a Garth Brooks tribute band and BBQ in Hotel Castlepollard. On Saturday, July 5, there will be a Tina Turner tribute band and a Rod Stewart tribute band. Sunday, July 6 will see a Big Truck Show on the Square. Tickets for the weekend are €15 and are available locally.
Late Mrs Julia Halton
The local North Westmeath community were saddened to learn of the death which took place on Monday, June 16 of Mrs Julia Halton (nee Cronogue), Ballinamee, Coole. The remains reposed at her residence from 5pm on Tuesday, June 17 and were removed on Wednesday evening to the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Thursday, June 19 with interment in Whitehall Cemetery.
Julia was a member of a an old prespected family, and had been predeceased by the death of her husband Michael. She was 91 years old, and will be sadly missed not alone by her immediate family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her loving son John, daughters Mary, Jane and Gertie, sons-in-law Richard Carroll, Alo Galligan and Martin Sheridan, grandchildren Sheila, Seamus, Alvin, Niamh and Sinead, great-grandchildren Odhran and Riona, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and wide circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
