Granard Tidy Towns in conjunction with Longford County Council will provide Grant Aid for those wishing to paint their premises in Granard Town Centre. Interested parties please apply in writing to the Secretary Granard Tidy Towns C/o Granard Post Office by Friday, July 4.
You are all invited to come along to the ICA Craft Fair & Floral Display on this Saturday 5 July in the Temperance Hall Longford from 10am to 5pm. A variety of crafts will be on display with the experts there prepared to share their knowledge with you. There will also be many demonstrations throughout the day. You can relax with a cuppa in the Cafe in the civic Suite with all home made culinary delights and soak up the fabulous flower arrangements prepared by our flower enthusiasts. A fun day is expected and we hope everyone will enjoy it.

Congratulations to all young people from Granard Parish who participated in the Community Games County Athletics Finals on Saturday and Sunday last in Ballymahon. There were strong competitions across all categories and great festive air in the grounds of Leo Casey Park. We come away with: 2 gold – David Ayorinde, (60m, U-8) and Velin Kolev (Long jump, U-14); 2 bronze – Aaron Brady (Javelin U-14) and Chantelle Sullivan (Long jump U-14). Children competed with such enthusiasm and our thanks also to the parents, who came along and cheer the competitors. Well done to everyone who participated – regardless of medal colours or placing, you were great representatives of Granard and we hope you all enjoyed the experience and fun of Athletics Finals. Many thanks to all sponsors. We greatly appreciate your support. Best of luck at the national finals in Athlone.

St Mary’s GFC
The Club would like to thank everyone who made our recent auction the success that it was. People were extremely generous contributors and also very willing participants at the Auction both from the local and surrounding areas. It was real community spirit in operation. Events like this provide much needed funds for clubs, so one again thanks to all.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre Barrack Street, Granard at 8.45pm. Proceeds go to St Mary’s GAA and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated. Jackpot in excess of €16,000.

Beautiful jewellery to finish off that special outfit also shoes and sandals. Books are clearing at 50 cent each. Due to popular demand the shop is now open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. All proceeds from the shop go directly and totally to projects within the community.

Well done to Edward and Rose Molloy who were interviewed by Brendan O’Carroll on Saturday morning on RTE1 radio and were successful in gaining a promise of funding from the famous comedian for their latest venture. We wish Edward and Rose every success with their project.

His funeral Mass was celebrated in St Mary’s church, Granard on Wednesday, June 25 followed by burial in Granardkille Old Cemetery. May his young and gentle soul be at peace and rest.
The death of Teresa (Tess) Curran Tallon formerly of Granard occurred at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home Longford on June 24. Removal took place to St Mary’s Church, Granard on Wednesday and funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday followed by burial in Granardkille Cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her family Padraig Rebecca and Brenda grandchildren great grand children and all the family circle.
The death of Michael Reilly, Carragh, Granard occurred at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home Longford on Wednesday, June 25. His body reposed at the family home until removal to St Mary’s Church, Carragh on Friday for funeral Mass followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to his beloved wife Carmel daughters Helen, Cathy, Rosie, Christine and Gillian, his sister Maggie, brother John, son in law, nieces, nephews, brothers in law, sister in laws and extended family.
