The annual Novena to our Blessed Lady continues each Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church Granard until Wednesday 17 December. This is a time of reflection petition praise and thanksgiving. Everyone welcome to take part.
Date for Diary
Bishop Frances Duffy will celebrate the 8.30pm Mass in St. Mary’s Church Granard on Saturday, 15 November. This is a Mass of thanksgiving to God for the consecrated life. All are invited to the Community Centre for refreshments and celebration afterwards.
Legion of Mary
Meetings now take place in the Community Centre every Thursday night at 8.30pm. This is a special time of prayer to Our Lady and if you would like to join the Legion of Mary you are welcome to come to any of the meeting.
Prayers for the faithful departed will take place in Granardkille Old Cemetery on Sunday, 16 November at 12.30pm. and in the New Cemetery at 1.30pm. All are welcome.
The final lecture in the series with renowned art critic and historian Ciaran MacGonigal took place in Granard Library on Thursday last. Granard I.C.A. guild in association with Granard Community Library hosted the Course with Mr. MacGonigal Art Critic. This course was kindly funded by LWETB. As a follow up to the Art Appreciation lectures a trip to the National Gallery and Dublin Castle is being organised by Ms Mary Carlton Reynolds Co. Librarian and will be guided by Mr. MacGonigal Anyone who would like to join in on this day trip due to take place on Saturday, 15 November should contact Rosemary at Granard Community Library Phone 6686164 and give their name and contact number as soon as possible.
The next meeting will take place on this Thursday, 6 November at 8pm in Granard Credit Union meeting room. All members are requested to attend as there are many important items on the agenda due to the fact that Granard Guild will host the Federation meeting and Cookery Cup competition on 20 November in the Community Centre, Granard. All those members who expressed interest in going to the Christmas Party night in Crover House on 6 December are reminded to please bring deposit of €20 to this meeting.
Granard Area Action Group Ltd. are holding their annual Table Quiz in Fay’s Bar on Friday, 21 November at 9pm. The group as sponsors of the local Community Employment Project have only one annual fundraiser to help with the employers PRSI contributions. Your support will be appreciated.
A Cookery Demonstration with Chef Adrian in aid of St. Christopher’s Services Longford will take place in the Longford Arms Hotel on Monday 10 November commencing at 8.00pm. This is event is kindly sponsored by Herterich Artisan Butchers Ltd. Longford. Your support will be appreciated. Spot Prizes and Raffles. Tickets are €10.00 each.
Longford Historical Society
A lecture on World War 1 will take place in the Sylvia Dawson Hall, St. Christopher’s, Battery Road, Longford on Thursday, 6 November at 8pm. Armistice Day Commemoration on Sunday, 9 November at War Memorial Market Square, Longford at 11.00am. All are welcome.
Bingo continues each Wednesday evening at 8.45pm in the Community Centre, Granard. Jackpot this week is €18,000. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s G.A.A. and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Thanks to Patricia our Yoga tutor for joining us at our last meeting. Local Historical/Heritage Group
The inaugural meeting of the group took place earlier this month and there was great interest and enthusiasm in getting the group established. Our next meeting will take place on Thursday, 13 November at 7.30pm in the O’Carolan Room at Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. We will be inviting a guest speaker form Longford Historical Society to speak to us on the night.
We will be meeting on Monday, 17 November at 3pm in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre, new members are always made very welcome.
All groups and activities are well under way at the Dolmen Centre in Aughnacliffe (Dolmen Failte Active Age Group – Dolmen Day Care Services – North Longford Men’s Group). Congratulations to Eugene McGee, the Colmcille native who launched his new book “The GAA in My Time” on 30 October in Croke Park Dublin. There was a large attendance from all over the country present at the launch which was performed by Mick O’Dwyer of Kerry.

The death of Anna (Della) Brady, nee Gavigan occurred peacefully at her residence in Denniston Park, Granard on 23 October. Her body reposed at her late residence until removal to St. Mary’s Church, Granard on Saturday for funeral Mass. Burial took place in Granardkille old cemetery. May she rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her sons Paul and Pauraic sister brothers relatives and friends.
The untimely death of Catherine Murray Carragh Granard occurred peacefully at Cavan Hospital on Sunday, 2 November. Her body reposed at the family residence until removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carragh for funeral Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her devoted husband Michael sons Ciaran, Declan and Colm, her daughter, Karine, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, daughters-in-law, son-in-law and extended family circle.
