The club offers its sympathy to the family of the late Michael Gorman, Coolamber, who died last week.
The Ramblers sampled many of the delights of spring on their walk on Sunday, April 13th. In beautiful sunny weather they left Streete Village and walked through Barradrum and Clonkeen to reach the bank of the River Inny at Derrada, deep in the bog. The song and sight of a skylark hovering high overhead in the clear air was a highlight of the afternoon, with a pair of swifts also overhead. That same clear air made it easy to appreciate the extent of the flat expanse of bog. The primroses seem to be particularly abundant this year with clumps of flowers all along the roadsides. Thank you to Peggy Flynn who organised not only the walk but also the tea and sandwiches in The Fiddler’s Green pub in Streete afterwards. Thank you also to landlord Jim Phelan, Marie and Catherine for their welcome in the pub. The Ramblers will visit Boora Bog in County Offaly on Sunday, April 27th. Cars will leave Boherquill at 10.30am and assemble at O’Brien’s Garage on the Lynn Road in Mullingar to arrange lifts and leave O’Brien’s at 11am. All are asked to bring a packed lunch and sturdy walking boots. Please take careful note of the early starting time for this journey. The Ramblers always welcome new members and the annual membership of €20 each or €30 for a family is excellent value for a year of fresh air and exercise among friends.
