The Ramblers returned to the more familiar territory of Mullaghmeen Forest for their first walk after their weekend away in Drumshanbo in October. But they still needed Frank Higgins as a guide through the maze of trails in Mullaghmeen, even after their many visits there over the years. Mullaghmeen’s many beech trees had shed most of their leaves during the recent windy weather, providing a multi-coloured covering on the forest floor. The lack of a canopy of leaves also let in more light to show off the trees’ grey trunks, many of them with a coat of healthy green moss. The ferns and lower greenery were dying back too, allowing wider views through the forest and giving an idea of its extensive area. Thank you to Frank for leading the Ramblers on the walk which combined parts of several trails to create a very satisfying outing. On Sunday, November 9th the Ramblers will walk in Derrycassin Forest beside Lough Gowna. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at Derrycassin at 2pm. There are several Sunday afternoons available for walks before Christmas, so any suggestions for walks, old or new, would be very welcome. Dates can be checked at www.boherquillramblers.ie.
Had a very busy week with all three teams in action. Streete A and C had good wins over Ardagh and Ballymore at the Streete complex. Streete C team is the leading team in Division 2 at the moment. Streete B travelled to Ardagh and after a close game the home team came out on top. This week Streete A and B have home games against Tyrrellspass A and Ballymore at the Streete complex. Streete C team play away in Castlepollard. Our bowls club gave a bowls demonstration at the sports and community expo held in Granard recently. There was great interest shown in the sport. The club would like to thank Mick Murray, Bill Bennett, Pat Kelly, Martin Gaynor and Enda Murphy for their contribution to this event. New members welcome!
