Alan the barber
We would like to wish Alan Croghan from Clooneen, Bornacoola all the very best on opening up his new barbers shop in Rooskey. Alan trained as a barber in Billy’s in Longford where he worked for over four few years before travelling to New Zealand and on his return saw the niche in the market for a barbers shop in the area. Alan is also a very fine footballer with Bornacoola. Alan’s shop is located next door to Cox’s Pub in Rooskey, so when the need arises pay him a visit.

A email to hand from Kevin Masterson and it reads as follows; The recent fundraiser that took place in Gortletteragh in aid of the national rehabilitation hospital Dun Laoghaire was an outstanding success - total amount raised came to €4243 . Edel Lambe fundraising manager with the NRH paid a visit to the area last weekend and was very thankful to all who subscribed so generously to this very worthy cause and she said this money goes to the direct benefit of the patients in the NRH. Having been a patient there myself recently and seeing at first hand the very good use that all money raised goes to, so I was only too delighted to be part of this great fundraising effort. Kevin & Teresa would once again like to thank everyone for their wonderful support.
We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Paddy Fox, Corrick who passed away peacefully on Wednesday last at his home. Paddy was laid to rest in Annaduff cemetery on Saturday last. May he rest in peace.
Bornacoola senior team took to the field for the first time this year on Sunday last when they hosted neighbours Gortlettragh in Dromod for a challenge game. With both teams missing some key players the game lively from start to finish. A early goal from Aiden Reilly kicked off the scoring for Bornacoola but Gortlettragh soon got back on level terms and then took the lead going in at half time two points ahead the second half saw both teams miss a lot of score-able chances but in the end a last minute Philip Howard point saw the sides end up with a draw. A great work out for both teams who start their league campaign next weekend. Bornacoola minors had their first game of the season on Saturday last when they hosted St. Mary’s and they also got off to a great start recording a win on the day, well done one and all. On Saturday next Bornacoola will have a home fixture in Division 3 v St Mary’s while on Sunday the Division 2 team will travel to Drumshambo to take on Allen Gales in their first league game.

The death occurred on Wednesday of our club President Paddy Fox, Corrick predeceased by his grandson Myles McDonagh, brothers Jim and John, sister Joan. Paddy is sadly missed by his wife Ena, daughters Noelin, Eithne and Eimear, sons Donal and Colum, grandchildren, sisters Frances Shanley and Attracta Gowran, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers –in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, neighbours and friends. Paddy was one of natures gentlemen. He was a Player and Administrator with Annaduff G.A.A for many years. When he finished playing he served Annaduff as an Official and Coach. After the death of Fr. Sean Manning, Paddy managed all under age teams with great success especially at under 14 and under 16 level winning numerous county titles. He not only managed the teams he brought most of the team to the matches in his car, no one was left behind when he arrived with his Volkswagen. When things were going badly Paddy always had great encouragement at half time always looking at the bright side. He also served on Board Na Og. Paddy was also a strong Leitrim supporter and was a mastermind on Leitrim teams of the past especially Leitrim County Junior teams. His proudest moment with Annaduff was probably when Annaduff won the senior championship in 2004. Annaduff G.A.A provided a guard of honour at Paddy’s Removal and Gerry Newton and his team did tremendous work over the three days. Paddy was one of the main men in the revival of Annaduff G.A.A in 1958. In 1958 the best moment of his life occurred when he married Ena O’Reilly from Lough Gowna in Cavan. Apart from sport Paddy was a man of man of many interests, he was one of the founding members of Annaduff Credit Union. He started work with C.I.E in Clarermorris where he worked for three years, after Leitrim Mayo was his great love at county level. When he left Clarermorris he started his Teaching career in Adoon, Cloone then went to Jamestown finally ending up as Principal in his beloved Annaduff National School. He was a Farmer also and a member of I.F.A. He loved in later years to walk the farm checking on his numerous sheep. Removal took place to St. Marys Church, Annaduff with burial in the adjoining Cemetery. A great and lovely man has died. May he rest in Peace. Division 1 (round 1) Annaduff v Aughnasheelin in Aughnasheelin on Sunday next at 12.00 .
