Diocesan Pilgrimage To Knock
Bishop Francis Duffy will lead the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock on Sunday, 7th September. Bus departs from Gowna at 9.45a.m. Mullinalaghta at 10p.m and Granard at 10.15a.m. Proceedings will get underway with confessions at 12.30p.m. Anointing of the sick will take place at 2.30pm. Mass with blessing of the sick will be celebrated at 3.00p.m. For the benefit of anyone wishing to travel by bus tickets are on sale at Cloonagh P.O at €16 each.
St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto draw in Keogh’s on Thursday, 21st August. The winning numbers were 1, 5, 15, 20.. with the jackpot of €5850 remaining intact. As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local post office or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week.
St. Columba’s GFC in conjunction with Longford Hospice will hold a 5km/ 10km run through Derrycassin Wood on Saturday, 30th August at 12 noon. Accurate course / chip timing will be an option for those wishing to avail of it. At the start of the race a chip is attached to your arm and your time is recorded. Chip entry fee is €15 and €10 for fun walkers. Registration will take place at entrance to the ‘’Laurels’’ beside Derrycassin Wood from 10.30a.m. Alternatively one can enter online at www.precisiontiming.net Refreshments will be served afterwards. Support would be very much appreciated. Please inform family and friends away from the area. There will be prizes for males, females and veterans.
On this Saturday, 30th August St. Columba’s will take on St. Mary’s, Granard in quarter final of the Peter Hanley, Senior Football Championship. The venue is Pearse Park. Please check fixtures for confirmation of this. Good luck boys.
Congratulations to the ladies footballers on winning Summer Leagues at Under 12 and Under 16 grades. The Under 12s defeated Drumlish while the Under 16s accounted for Longford Slashers. Let’s hope that many more trophies will come to the parish this year.
