John Donlon RIP

There was widespread sadness when news of the great Longford GAA stalwart John Donlon’s death became known on Tuesday 4 February. John was a member of the Longford team that won the National League in 1966 and Leinster Championship in 1968. His body reposed at the family home for two days and there were vast numbers of Gaels came to pay their respects to a local hero. Removal took place on Thursday to Newtowncashel Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday morning followed by burial in Moydow Cemetery. Fellow Clubman Martin Skelly gave a glowing oration at the graveside followed by a rendition of the Blue and Gold by Jody Sheridan Granard who was a panel member of that famous team. May he rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to his wife Maureen sons daughters brothers sisters and extended family circle and many friends.
