This coming Sunday, February 16th, sees the eagerly anticipated 5K fundraiser event in aid of seven year old Jane Boyle Regan. Jane requires life changing surgery in Switzerland which will open her airways and rebuild her vocal chords. The event begins at 1.00pm, with the route being out the Collinstown road and looping back around Loughpark into Castlepollard. Registration takes place in Castlepollard Town Hall from 11.45am. Entry fee is 10.00 euro per adult, U.16 5.00 euro, and family entry 20.00 euro. Refreshments afterwards in Castlepollard Parish Community Centre, Church Street. The late Fr T Mulvey
The entire local community were saddened to learn of the death, which took place on Monday, February 3rd, in the dedicated care of the staff at Rose Lodge Nursing Home, Killucan, of Very Rev. Fr. Thomas (Tom) P.E., Mulvey, late of Abbylara, Co. Longford, and England, and latterly of Glenview, Castlepollard. The remains rested in the Oratory, St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, on Friday, February 7th, followed by reception into St. Michael’s Church at 7.15pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Saturday morning, February 8th, at 11.30am, with internment afterwards in the church grounds. The attendance at the removal, reception, Mass and internment was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Father Tom, as he was known locally, will be sadly missed not alone by his immediate family,former parishioners, and dedicated carers but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survivied by his sister Sister Anne, V.S., sister-in-law Winifred, nephews and their families, Bishop Conroy and priests of Arundel and Brighton, priests of Fore Deanery, other relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
Easter Half Marathon
Plans are fully in place for the Easter Half Marathon being organised by Ringtown Hurling Club, to take place on Easter Monday, April 21st. The event has an AAI permit, and refreshments and shower facilities will be available after the event in Ringtown GAA Centre, Whitehall, Castlepollard. The day starts with the 10K event at 11.00am, and the half marathon begining at 11.15am. Entry fees are 15.00 euro for the 10K, and 30.00 euro for the half marathon. Next Tuesday, February 13th, sees the Oregon Chainsaw Clinic coming to Hotel Castlepollard, at.7.00pm. The event is open to all chainsaw users, irrespective of make or model, and is being hosted by Eugene O”Neill Lawnmower Centre, Castlepollard. New comedy play
Whitehall Community Centre, Whitehall, Castlepollard, will be the venue for the staging of a new comedy play entitled “ A Lock of Fierce Roars”, from the pen of John McManus, the writer of “The Quare Land”. The play will be staged on Saturday, March 8th at 8pm. The play is beinf directed by writer John McManus, and stars Niall Bruton, Paddy Dean, Neil Hogan and Emer O’Carroll.
