Drumreilly disappointed in their Senior Championship debut, when they were beaten on a score of 2-13 by a cohesive Gortletteragh fifteen on Saturday last in Carrigallen. The winners enjoyed a 1-11 to 0-3 lead at the interval, following scores courtesy of Pádraig Gallagher (1-4), Cathal McCrann (0-4), James Campbell ()-1), Conor Reynolds (0-1) and Kevin McGrath (0-1) in reply to Drumreilly’s three scores from Cormac Maguire (0-2) and Brian Fee (0-1). Drumreilly fared better in the second half. John Reynolds opened the winners’ second half account with a first minute point, and James Holahan and Declan Maxwell responded with one each in the 5th and 7th minutes respectively.
Free-taker Nigel Maguire punished fouls with four points on the trot to narrow the gap to six points. Whatever hopes Drumreilly entertained of a turn around were summarily dispelled when John Reynolds stretched the lead to nine points when he drilled to the net to finish a fine four man inter-passing sequence. Drumrelly’s John McKeon, as ever his side’s rallying force, notched his side’s last point, and the last score of the hour fell to the winners. The following did duty for Drumreilly: Michael McGirl, Dermot Holahan, John McKeon (0-1), Ronan McCartin, Nigel Maguire (0-4), Seán Fee, Graeme Taylor, Declan Maxwell (0-1), Niall Maguire, Ollie Maguire, Brian Fee (0-1), James Holahan (0-1), Donal McCabe, Charlie McElchar, Cormac Maguire (0-2), Fergal Michell.
