The Peter’s Pence collection in the church which is held in June every year, is used by Pope Francis 1 to enable him to meet some of the needs of parish communities in the developing world and to support other pastoral initiatives. This collection will replace the usual monthly collection for St. Matthews Church Renovation Fund, and it will take place this coming weekend, 21st/22nd June.
The annual Peace Walk from Dublin to Knock will take place this year during the week 15th to 20th July. Many people in this parish have provided accommodation for the walkers during an overnight stay here. This year they will be staying on the night of Thursday, 17th July. Fr. Padraig would like to hear from anyone who would be willing to provide bed and breakfast accommodation this year. The members of the group have commented on the warm welcome which they receive here every year.
Garda Barracks temporarily closed
Ballymahon Garda Station will be closed for approximately six weeks to allow for upgrading works on the premises. This work commenced on 19th May. During this time the local Gardai will operate from Lanesboro Garda Station. If however, you need say, a Passport form signed or have any concerns the Gardai will be present at Bridgeways Resource Centre, across the road from St. Matthews Church on two days a week, Mondays and Fridays from 2p.m. to 4p.m.
Congratulations to Jennifer Egan, daughter of Noel and Rufina, St. Matthews Park who recently got married in St. Dominic’s Church, Kenagh to Gary Percival, son of Sean and Margaret, Corlea. The lovely wedding ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Tom Barden, P.P. Kenagh assisted by Fr. Padraig McGowan, P.P. Ballymahon with the Bride walking up the Aisle looking gorgeous in her beautiful white gown and her Bridesmaids also looking great in their coral coloured dresses. Chief Bridesmaid for Jennifer was her sister Natasha Kinnahan, her Bridesmaids were her sister, Andrea Egan and friend Lorraine Rogan. Best man for Gary was his brother Alan, his Groomsmen were his brother Seanie and his cousin Shane Cassidy. The young Page-boys were Adam and Cian, sons of Jennifer and Gary and the Flowergirls were Latisha and Lily Kinahan, God-daughters and nieces of the Bride, the boys and girls looked great all dressed up. Jennifer and Gary celebrated their big day with their families and lots of friends at the Athlone Springs Hotel and are spending their Honeymoon touring Ireland. Among the many guests who travelled long distances to join in the celebrations were Jennifer’s aunt, Marian and Dick from England and also Gary’s aunt, Marie who came over from Saudi Arabia. We wish the newly weds many long years of good health, wealth and happiness together.

Members of second class in St. Matthews national school are invited to become Altar servers in St. Matthews Church. Application forms are available from Bryan Kennedy at the school. Fr. Padraig also needs some parents to be available to assist with the altar servers in the church sacristy before and after Mass.
The annual Novena of Prayer in honour of the Sacred Heart will take place in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Carrickedmond with Mass and Novena Prayer from this Thursday, 19th June at 8p.m. until Friday, 27th June at 8.00p.m.
Will take place in Cloncallow on Sunday next, 22nd June at 5.30p.m. and later in the evening at 7.00p.m. in Forgney Graveyard. On Sunday, 13th July it takes place at Shrule Cemetery and later in the summer, on Sunday, 10th August, Cemetery Sunday will be held in Kilcomock. There will also be Prayers for the Faithful Departed at Taghshinod Cemetery after Mass in Carrickedmond at 10.00a.m. on Sunday, 6th July.

Corpus Christi Procession
This coming Sunday, 22nd June is the feast of Corpus Christi. One of the highlights of the parish year is the outdoor Procession which takes place on this date and this will be held on Sunday next immediately after the 11.30a.m. Mass. You are invited to join in on the procession and it is hoped that all the children who received their first holy communion this year will also take part.
An Irish language summer course, SIAMSA, is taking place from July 7th to 11th in Gaelscoil, Longfoirt. The course will be held from 9.30a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and will cater for students from second class to First Year. Please continue to bring in used stamps to St. Matthews Church. A box in which they may be deposited is located in the porch where most people enter the church. The St. Patrick’s missionaries, Kiltegan have asked that you be thanked for your efforts in collecting these stamps, which, when they are sold to collectors, raise funds which support the missionary initiatives of St. Patrick’s Missionaries, Kiltegan, Co Wicklow.
John Ryan from the Cloncallow Cemetery group would like to sincerely thank all who supported and attended their fundraising night in Skelly’s Bar, Ballymahon on the night of Sunday, 4th May, 2014. He appreciates the hard work of Pat Byrne and his staff for contributing to a successful and memorable event and would like to express his appreciation to the local traders and people who generously donated over twenty spot prizes on the night. In addition, John would like to extend his gratitude to all the committee members for the ticket sales and their dedication and to acknowledge all the members who gave their time and efforts in the work undertaken at the cemetery. All these contributions for Cloncallow cemetery are in memory of all the souls, our loved ones and those who have no one to remember them. May they all rest in peace.

Ballymahon/Forgney Ladies Football club will be holding a fund-raising Golf Classic in Mount Temple Golf Club on Saturday, 5th July. It will be a four-ball competition, entry fee €100 per team. G.A.A. President visits Ballymahon
Liam O’Neill, Uachtaran CLCG recently visited the new National School here in Ballymahon much to the delight of all the children attending the school. During the visit, Mr. O’Neill made a presentation of medals to the school team. He also presented the Principal of the school, Herbert Farrell and retired Principal, Michael Kelly with some silverware in appreciation of services to the G.A.A. from the Ballymahon club. Well done to all involved.
Ballymahon Leo Casey History Group
An Exhibition is being held at Ballymahon Library from June 24th to 28th, arranged by the local Leo Casey History Group, relating to local participation in World War 1. The Exhibition of Memorabilia will include old photographs, letters and various items brought back by survivors of the War. Admission is free during Library Hours. The Opening evening on the Tuesday will begin at 7.00p.m. and will include some prominent speakers. Everyone welcome.
