Cavan, who died on Wednesday 27 November brother of T. P. Smith, Barrack St. Granard. They are all sadly missed by their lovely families, relatives, neighbours and friends. May they rest in peace.

St. Peter’s Centre

A gathering event for past and present staff members of St. Peter’s Centre, Castlepollard, will take place on Friday evening, 6 December. The evening will get underway with Mass in St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard at 6.30pm, followed by an evening of music, refreshments and entertainment in Hotel Castlepollard. Are holding their Annual Fundraiser in Crawford’s on Saturday 14 December. Lines for Raffle are available at Farrell’s shop and at various outlets in Granard. Music on the night is by Mary O’ Connor.

Presentation Night

Northern Gaels Presentation Night will take place on Sunday 8 December at 7.00pm in Abbeylara National School. Refreshments will be served. Raffle and Spot Prizes. Everyone is welcome.

Country Markets

Granard country markets are celebrating their 35th birthday on this Friday December 6 and to mark the occasion they are having a free raffle for all customers. The market is now taking orders for Christmas cakes, puddings cards, gifts etc and the market is open in its new home beside the post office every Friday from 8.30am to 11.00 am.

Santa Club

A very special thank you to all the people who came to our Table Quiz on Saturday night last.  We had a great night with seven tables playing and finishing off the night with a raffle.  Quiz winners were the A Team, well done and thanks for donating your winnings back into the club.  Raffle winners were (1) Eamon Creamer, (2) Packie Lynch, (3) Paddy Reilly (4) Joanne Creamer.  A special thanks to the people who sponsored a table and to all the people who donated spot prizes. Senior Citizens

Their Annual Christmas Dinner will be held on 15 December 2013 in Crawford’s Lounge. Mass will take place in the Lounge at 1pm followed by a full Christmas Dinner and entertainment.

Gun Club

The Gun Club are holding their Annual Christmas Draw and Party in Crawford’s Lounge on Saturday the 21 December, music on the night is by Na Fianna. Tickets for their draw are now on sale by club members and in local shops, 1st prize €300, 2nd prize €200, 3rd prize €100 and 4th prize €50; tickets cost €2 each or 3 for €5.

Christmas Market

As part of our Community Festive Celebrations and Gathering 2013 the Christmas Lights committee are hosting a Christmas Market on Sunday 8 December on Upper Main Street Granard between 12 noon and 5.00pm. All surrounding local businesses are invited to come together in these challenging times to promote their seasonal wares in traditional market style.  The Christmas Market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationary crib also. Local Carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will arrive to kick off the festive celebrations.  Anyone wishing to take a stand is welcome to do so. Rath Mhuire Resource Centre is having a Sale of Work/Pop up Shop on Friday 6 December in the Community Centre Granard starting at 9.00am. There will be a large range of items for sale and we already have collected many new and unused quality products so this would be the ideal opportunity to get that present for a great price.  All proceeds from the sale will go to Rath Mhuire and Dolmen Services and we look forward to your support.

Parish Pastoral Council

The new Pastoral Council held their first meeting on Tuesday 26 November. It was a good meeting. More details about this meeting and forth coming meetings will be available after the meetings. The outgoing Pastoral Council were thanked sincerely for their years of loyal service on the previous Pastoral Council.
