The Annual General meeting of Legan IFA takes place tonight, Wednesday, 4th December in the GAA Clubhouse, Legan starting at 9.00pm. It is important that all members attend as election of Branch Officers and decide who will be National President and Vice President for next four years.

Flower Demonstration

The Annual Christmas Flower Arranging demonstration hosted by Legan ICA will take place on Wednesday 11th December in the GAA Clubhouse. The demonstration will be presented by Ann Murphy Florist who will make five beautiful Christmas arrangements which will be raffled. A sale of homemade Christmas Cakes Puddings and baking will start at 7.45pm. A Festive supper will be served. All money raised will be donated to three local charities Aware, Hospice and Vincent de Paul. All welcome.

Society of St Vincent de Paul

The Annual collection of Society St Vincent de Paul takes place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December at all Masses. Your support would be very much appreciated. Edgeworthstown branch covers this area of Legan/Ballycloghan and their helpline is 0876788544.

First Friday

This Friday is the First Friday of December and Holy Communion calls to the sick and housebound are at the usual times.


Results of GAA Lotto draw held on Monday 25th November in Slowey’s for a jackpot of €8,200. Numbers drawn were 7, 11, 16 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winner of €100 was Peter Boylan. This week’s draw took place in The Hill, Carrickboy and results will be published next week.


Ballycloghan Foróige Club is holding a Disco for Primary school children in Ballycloghan Hall on Sunday 15th December from 4-6pm. Everyone welcome. Christmas logs will be on sale throughout the month of December at various outlets. Your support would be greatly appreciated.


County Longford Social Services will hold their Church gate collection at all Masses in the County on 21/22nd December. Please support generously.

Rose of Foróige

Legan Foróige Club will host the Longford/ Roscommon Regional Rose of Foróíge and Disco in the Aurora Hall, Legan on Friday 6th December starting at 7.30pm.

Legan Sarsfield AGM

The Annual General meeting of Legan Sarsfield GAA Club took place on Friday night last which was well attended with lively and constructive debate. The main members of the committee were re-elected unopposed, Chairman Paul Ross and Treasurer Larry Bannon. The Club wishes the outgoing Secretary David Cranston the best of luck as he is taking a year long career break. Congratulations to Carmel Nulty who was elected secretary for the coming year. A vote of sympathy was passed on the death of lifelong member and Vice President Joe Boyce and also Bill Doherty who was a lifelong member and supporter who both passed away recently. All other committee members were re-elected.

ICA Craft Fair

This Saturday 7th December Longford Federation ICA will hold a Christmas Craft Fair in the Temperance Hall Longford from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  There will be an opportunity to get that unique Christmas present Handmade jewellery, bags, quilts, knitted garments, Christmas decorations, cakes, jams, chutneys from one of our many talented Longford Crafters, Homemade goods of all descriptions will be on offer, visit Santa in his Grotto from 12 pm to 2.00 pm. Come and enjoy one of our demonstrations on the day; Christmas Tree Decorations 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Christmas Flower Arranging demonstration from 1.00 to 2.00 p.m. Cake Icing Demonstration from 2.oo to 3 p.m. Listen to the Carol singers around 2p.m. or enjoy a cup of tea and mince pies in the Cafe.  There is something for everyone so come along and visit us there.  


A going away party for David Cranston, Ballycloghan was held in The Hill, Carrickboy on Saturday night last. David who has served as secretary of the local GAA Club for a number of years was joined by club members, players and family. We wish him Bon Voyage. We also congratulate Ian Moran, Ballymaclifford, who celebrated his Happy 21st Birthday with a party for family and friends in Carrickboy last weekend. A surprise party was organised on Saturday night for Linda Boylan who celebrated a special Birthday. Congratulations Linda and we wish you many more.
