Mrs Annie Reilly
We regret to record the death of the parish’s oldest resident last weekend. Annie (Nan) Reilly, Drumcorr was in her 100th year and passed away peacefully at College View Nursing Home on Friday night in the presence of her devoted family to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. May she rest in peace. (Obituary next week)
Sunday last was the first Sunday of Advent, a time of preparation for the birth of Our Saviour at Christmas. It is also a time of reflection as we recall that our time in this world is passing away and that we are waiting for the final coming of Christ at the end of time. Advent wreaths which are symbolic of this time were blessed before weekend Masses.
Morning Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, Loughduff at 9.30 and evening Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran at 7 pm. The sick & elderly will be visited on Thursday only in the Mullahoran area and on Friday in the Loughduff area. Please contact Parochial house 043.6683141 if any of the sick or elderly are not at home on those dates.
Feast of Immaculate Conception
Sunday next 8th December is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Vigil Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, Loughduff at 7pm on Saturday with morning Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran on Sunday at 9.30.
St. Vincent De Paul
Annual Church Gate collection will be taken up this coming weekend 7th/8th Dec. at all parish Masses. Please give generously as many are in need at this time.
There was a jovial atmosphere in the Parochial hall on Friday night last for presentation of underage football medals. Monaghan’s Ulster Winning Player and 2013 All Star Conor McManus was a very popular Guest of Honour and he presented the 2013 championship winning u12, u14 & u16 boys teams with their medals amid rapturous applause. A record 36 boys in total received medals and Conor was loud in his praise for the boys as he congratulated them and encouraged continued participation in sport move on.
A presentation was also made to the underage managers in appreciation for their contribution and dedication which augurs well for the future of football in the parish Congratulations to all the boys and their mentors on their achievements in 2013. As Conor mingled with the crowd it was apparent had many fans among the youngsters as they queued for photographs and autographs and chat. A very enjoyable night was had by all and definitely a night to remember.
On Saturday next 7th December in the home of Mary Matthews, Middletown, Loughduff from 10 am – 1 pm, refreshments and spot prizes galore and good craic! Proceeds in aid of local Positive Age, all welcome.
In the Seven Horse Shoes, Belturbet, on Sunday, December 8th from 9.30 p.m. – 12.00 midnight (in aid of BCDA). Music by Ian Corrigan. Adm. €10.
Arts & Crafts
Would you like something to pass the long winter nights? The Apostolic Society are holding a Demonstration Night on Thursday 5th Dec. in the Parochial hall at 8pm. Crafts include; knitting, crochet, patchwork, pouffe seat making and of course baking. All are invited – you may discover a hidden talent.
Nomination Forms have been distributed for new members for next 3 year term and should be completed and returned next weekend. All are asked to please give this matter some consideration.
The Mullah Oran GFC A,G.M takes place this coming Sunday afternoon 8th December in the John P, Wilson Complex.
