U-21 Championship: On Sunday last in Packie Devlin Park, Killeshandra the St Joseph’s team were too strong for a gallant Drumalee side in the quarter final of the Cavan U-21 Football Championship. We wish them continued success in this competition.
Congratulations are extended to St Columba’s GAA, Mullinalaghta who won the coveted Leader Cup in Longford for the first time in over 60 years. With a strong Arva connection to a couple of the players there is always interest in how they are progressing. There is also a strong connection to Longford Slashers but everyone loves to see a new team emerging.
The proceeds of the Annual Breffni 20 K Challenge will be presented to the three charities on this Friday at 10.00 pm. Music on the night will be provided by Mary Harwood and James Galligan and a good night is assured. Each year St Luke’s Hospital, Dublin, National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Galway and Cavan Cancer Homecare receive much needed funding as a result of the generosity of many people who take part or sponsor participants in the Breffni 20 K.

The Sick and Infirm will be attended at the usual times on this Friday 6th December (1st Friday) in the Arva and Coronea areas. St Vincent de Paul
The Arva St Vincent de Paul started 28 years ago and covers part of Longford, Leitrim and Cavan. During this time they have helped hundreds of families and they would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have supported them over the years. Those who subscribe to their collections, Kieran and the Country Markets committee, Michael and Jana from “Clutterbugs” Charity shop for their generosity and all their friends from the Church of Ireland. They wish to say a big Thank You to everyone for their kindness. The annual Church Gate Collection will take place on this weekend Saturday 7th / Sunday 8th December.

There will be no Curling in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva during December or January but will recommence in February.
The Switch-on of the town Christmas lights and the annual visit of Santa Claus takes place on Saturday of next week the 14th December at 4pm. The Lights will be switched on at the Christmas tree on the Market Square kindly donated by Brady’s of Arva. Local Carol Signing will take place. This year businesses are requested to give generously to the cost of the Christmas lighting and Santa gifts. Tickets for the Christmas Hamper draw will be on sale in all outlets in Arva from Friday 22nd November.
The Arva Community Dinner will take place on Wednesday of next week 11th December at 7.30 pm sharp in the Breffni Arms Hotel. Admission is just €5-00 so come along and have a good nights entertainment and meet Santa Claus.

Will hold their next Parish Dance on Friday of next week 13th December in Tomregan Parish Hall, Ballyconnell from 10pm till late. Music is by Vincie Carr and Alan McGrory. Tickets are €10 at the door. Supper served, all welcome. Funds are in aid of the Hall refurbishment.

Daniel Madigan, Arva enjoyed a successful weekend at the recent ESB Swim Club Gala in Dublin. Daniel won a silver medal in the 50m Freestyle final and bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly stroke finals.
