Gaelic 4 Mothers

The Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others will be starting up very soon. Anybody interested in joining this is asked to attend a short meeting next Thursday evening in Monaduff at 7.30pm.  This is a fun way to get fit and to meet new people. It is open to women over 18 years of age who are not currently playing any competitive football.

Tidy Towns

Drumlish Tidy Town’s seek your help for Saturday, 12th April to do a clean up within the Village Core. Loads of seasonal jobs to be done to prepare for the upcoming  judging season. A 9am. start with loads of help should get all the jobs done in jig time. Meet opp. the Post Office at Main Street. Bring your rubber gloves and  hi -viz vests.   

Demonstration

Composting Demonstration will take place at the rear of the Poly Tunnel on Main Street on Thursday, 24th April at 4.30pm. This is a unique opportunity to learn what can be done with all green and brown waste... would be of particular interest to those who have large green areas and lots of grass clippings i.e. residents committee’s from/or around the village - Environment Officer, Gary Brady will be on board to give the demonstration. Spread the word.

Bio Diversity Workshop

Drumlish Tidy Town’s and Drumlish Library in association with St. Mary’s National School are meeting on Saturday morning, 26th April 10a.m. to do a bio-diversity workshop. i.e.  we will attempt to identify and list at least 6 species of plant, animal and bug from the verges and hedgerow near the Mill River. The water from the river will also be checked for the organisms dwelling therein. What we find will tell us a lot about the water quality in the river. Join us at the Library at 10am to join this fun morning. Parents must accompany younger children.

Melodies in May

Longford County Choir will be in concert at St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish on Sunday 4th  May next (Bank Holiday weekend). This fundraiser is for Heritage projects within the village - Tickets are available locally at the Post Office, Centra, Costcutters and from choir members.

Village Enhancement

First clean-up is arranged for today, Wednesday the 9th April. Meeting at the ‘98 Hall at 7pm for one hour. It is amazing how much can be done in an hour when everyone pitches in ,so we would be delighted to see all our helpers from last year and hopefully lots of new ones for the coming year. Spread the word and see you all then. 

Host families needed!!

Host families are needed for Spanish students attending a summer camp in Moyne CS, for three weeks in July.  Payment for the three weeks is €550 and anyone can participate. For more information, contact Maeve on 085 8391939 or moynesummercamp2014@gmail.com.

Village Flowers

Drumlish would like to thank everyone who contributed to their Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society last Friday March 28th. €450 was raised through the sale of locally donated Daffodils, thank you.

Cycle fundraiser

Paul McCormack, Ken Kerrigan, Donal Madden and Martin McGee (Jun), will cycle doing the “Tour De West” on 10th /11th May from Ballymahon to Sligo and back - a distance of 250 kilometres in aid of Cancer Research. We join their families and friends in wishing them well in their endeavours. 

Sponsorship is needed for this charity run. Cards available from the cyclists.

Dublin Dinner

60th Longford-Dublin Association Annual Gala Dinner - takes place in the Red Cow Moran’s hotel on Saturday next, April 12th, commencing at 8pm. Award recipients are Drumlish native, Liam Caldwell, and Tom Gilligan, a native of Abbeylara. Music is by country star, Mick Flavin, and his band. Patrons may overnight in the hotel at a special price of 89 euro per couple, which includes breakfast. Co. Longford Rural Transport

Change to timetable/schedule for Good Friday the 18th April 2014.

Please note that all scheduled Rural Transport – Friday Services, throughout the County, will run on Thursday 17th April, with the same collection and departure times. All age groups are welcome to travel. Seamus and staff wish all Rural transport passengers and supporters a very Happy Easter.

Cairn Hill Challenge

Recent wedding

Congratulations to Martina Curwin and John Whearty, Sliabh Cairbe who were married recently in St. Mary’s Drumlish. The bride wearing a strapless sweetheart neckline silk dress with lace and diamonte overlay and train was given away by her daughter Katie. Her diamonte veil was held in place by a diamonte headpiece and she carried a brooch bouquet. She was attended by sisters Sharon Curwin and Bernadette McNally and Katie Smith wearing full length coral chiffon dresses.. John was attended by Patrick Murphy as Bestman and Padraig Tighe and Karl Brown as groomsmen. Katie Whearty was flowergirl and Joseph Mcnally was pageboy The Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ber Hogan PP Drumlish/Ballinamuck and the reception attended by a large circle of family and friends was held in the Slieve Russel Hotel Ballyconnell. We join their families and friends in wishing Martina and John every blessing and happiness in the future.

Baptism

Ryan Patrick Cosgrove, son of Stephen and Catriona, Longford was baptised and welcomed into the Faith community last weekend. We congratulate his parents also.

New door closures (springs) are now operating to keep all doors closed and conserve heat and energy. Please allow doors to close naturally and do not force doors to close as it will damage the doors.

Death

McDermott: The death occurred recently of Brian McDermott Gaigue, Ballinamuck. Predeceased by his daughter Marilyn we extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Maureen, daughter Eilish, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, family and friends.
