Longford Triathlon club is hosting a 24 hour triathlon at the Mall Complex in Longford over the coming weeks in what promises to be an event like no other.
Over the course of Friday November 1 and Saturday November 2, participants hope to clock up over 1,100 kilometres, the same distance which covers Malin Head to Mizen Head.
All proceeds raised during the course of the weekend will go to Longford Hospice in what is the third year athletes have jogged, peddled and swam over the course of 24 hours.
At all times during the event there will be someone swimming, cycling and running.
Swimming is in the Mall pool with stationary bikes and a treadmill set for the main reception area.
In keeping with competition’s virtues, distances will be recorded and logged for each participant that takes part.
How to take part:
Each participant can choose between one or all of the three disciplines. Depending on their choice, they can opt to do a half hour or a 60 minute slot at their desired pace.
As well as that, the event is open to individuals or relay teams with prizes on offer for the top 3 teams who cover the greatest distance during their slots.
Whether you are part of a club, workplace or a group of friends interested in doing your bit for charity, anyone is welcome to enter relay teams.
And the price, apart from the physical toll, isn’t bad either with each participant asked to donate €10 for each half hour slot.
To enter, simply call Brendan Doyle on 087 2241352 to book a slot on the time sheet which starts on Friday November 1 at 6pm and runs until 6pm the following evening.
In a bid to raise as much money as possible for Longford Hospice, there will be a bucket collection on the streets of Longford on both the Friday and Saturday.
