Longford Rural Transport
Please note that all scheduled Rural Transport – Friday Services, throughout the County, will run on Holy Thursday 17th April, instead of Good Friday with the same collection and departure times. All age groups are welcome to travel. Wishing a very “Happy Easter” to all Rural Transport passengers and supporters.
Bus to Knock

Over the Easter, Services at Forgney Catholic Church will be held on Holy Thursday at 6.30p.m. and on Good Friday at 6.30p.m. A reminder also that Cemetery Sunday at Cloncallow will be held on Sunday, 22nd June at 5p.m. and at Forgney Cemetery on the same day at 7p.m.
Annual cake sale in aid of Shrule Cemetery maintenance will take place in the Bridgeways Centre, on Good Friday, immediately after the Ceremonies. Large selection of jams, healthbreads, cakes, deserts etc. Light refreshments will be served. Your support as in previous years will be much appreciated.
Tashinney National School, enroling is now taking place for September 2014. Parents who wish to enrol their child/children may call in to the school or contact the school on 04493-57610.

Home from Holidays
Welcome home to Willie and Yvonne Dowler, Moigh and Yvonne’s sister Marie who spent some time in Berlin last week. We hope you all enjoyed the trip.
A fundraiser for the upkeep of Cloncallow Cemetery will be held in Skelly’s Lounge on Friday, 4th May. Tickets are on sale at €5 each from committee members. There will be music and craic on the night. Your support will be appreciated.
Every year a number of people provide Palm branches for the ceremony of the blessings of palms in St. Matthews Church on Palm Sunday. Hopefully you can do so again this year. Please cut the braches into small manageable pieces. Then on Palm Sunday bring the blessed palm home and place in a prominent place.
A re-union of everyone who worked in Ballymahon Clothing Factory, Claffeys, Dubtex, Balman, Manford and Manford Direct is being held at the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Friday, 25th April. The event will commence at 9p.m. Donation buckets will be at the door and any proceeds received on the night will be donated to local Charities. All are welcome to join in the fun, past employees of these factories, together with their partners, families and friends. Music is to be provided by the Ramblers and lots of other artists with a disco later in the night with DJ Michael Rooney. A great chance for you to renew old friends and colleagues.
The Parents Association at Ballymahon National School are holding a big draw on Friday, 11th April. All the children at the school have yellow cards with lines to sell and these cards are also available in many of the local shops. They will also be on sale on Main Street on Saturday next 5th April, so your support will be greatly appreciated. All lines are €2 each with lots of great prizes on offer. Hard luck to Co Longford Senior football team who were beaten by Wexford on Sunday last in the final game of the League. Unfortunately Longford were relegated and will play in Division 4 next year.
Home on holidays

The 12th annual Longford G.A.A. Raceday is coming up shortly, on Wednesday, 30th April at Punchestown Racecourse. Congratulations to Brendan Keenan, Kenagh who won €28,000 on the RTE programme “Winning Streak” recently. Brendan was represented on the Show by his sister, Bridget McGee who looked very well on the television. There was great celebrations in Kenagh later that night with Brendan and his family. Well done indeed.

Death of Marie Gill
The sad death occurred on March 28th last of Marie Gill, Haddington Road, formerly of Main Street, Ballymahon, daughter of Phyllis and the late Dan, also pre-deceased by her brother John. Marie was in her early ‘sixties when she passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital following her battle with her illness. She was a friendly, good-humoured lady who was a regular visitor to Ballymahon over the years visiting her family here, especially recently to visit her mother in Thomond Lodge Nursing Home, she will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. We offer our sincere sympathy to Marie’s husband Michael, her mother Phyllis, her daughter Gill and Gill’s father, Tom, her son-in-law Conor, her sisters Ann, Catherine, Norrie and Dennie, brother Donal, grand-daughters Roisin and Eimear and all her relatives and wide circle of friends. Congratulations to Frances Kelleher and her daughter Orla, Terlicken whose Art Exhibition “Solas ‘s Saol” was officially opened on Thursday night last by Fergus Kennedy from The County Art Services in Longford. There was a great turnout at the event in the Atrium Gallery at Backstage where there was also a surprise visit by “Fagan, Oliver and the Artful Dodger” who were rehearsing in the adjoining Theatre. If you would like to drop in to the Gallery, Frances & Orla’s beautiful pieces of colourful Art will be on show for the next few weeks. Everyone welcome. Well done to mother and daughter.
