Who wants to be a Thousandaire Carrickedmond GAA launched their major fundraiser for this year “Who wants to be a Thousandaire?” recently. The show will take place in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Saturday night, April 20th starting at 8pm. Funds raised will go towards the upkeep of the GAA complex, grounds and pitch. Our facilities are used by the Carrickedmond GAA Club, Carrickedmond Ladies Club, Carrick Sarsfields Minor Club and local schools. Tickets are 15.00 euro each and can be got from any committee member or on the door the night of the show. Eight contestants are picked from tickets bought to play the game show. If you can’t make the show, you can nominate someone or the committee can pick someone to play on your behalf. All support would be greatly appreciated. Community Games The local community games group have being very busy and successful with events over the past number of weeks. On Thursday, the 14th March, the table quiz team took part in county community games competition and they give a very good account of their knowledge on the night. The team representing Carrickedmond was Orla Farrell, Jodie McCormack, Ellen Shannon and Ciara Mulligan. On Saturday, the 16th of March we had six children from the area take part in county swimming finals and brought home six medals, 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Our medal winners were Gabriel Murphy U-8 Freestyle, Sam Mills U-10 Freestyle, Aislinn Egan U-10 Freestyle, Jenna Mills U-12 Freestyle, Aisling Gorman U-12 Breaststroke and David Mills U-12 Breaststroke. Well done to all on this exceptional result. On Wednesday the 20th of March, Cian Hughes and Siobhan Egan took part in the U-10 Handwriting competition. We are awaiting results of this competition. For the first time the Community Games in Carrickedmond had teams compete in Futsal. Our U-13 Boys team was made up of Danie Lennon, James Donovan, James Reilly, Sean McCormack, Cian Tighe and James McCormack. The U-13 Girls team who reached the final of the Futsal and were victorious were Aimee Higgins, Ellen Shannon, Orla Farrell, Ciara Mulligan, Niamh Dempsey, Grace Keegan, Grace Esler and Leah Shannon. They won 6-2 against Abbeylara/Mullinghta. This team now go forward to represent Longford in the First Round of Leinster competition. Well done to both teams. Thanks to Paula and Eamon for training the team for this event.

Motivational Fitness Boot camp will commence in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on this Wednesday night, 9th April at 8pm. Some activities will take place outside weather permitting. The classes are fun, friendly and a great way to burn calories and fat. The classes cater for all fitness abilities. Places are limited so booking is essential.
