The Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland would like to announce that our Church Gate Collection will be held on Saturday the 28 and Sunday 29 of September throughout the county. The money raised will greatly contribute to our continued services in the area. These include a home care service, a respite service, a transport service and a day care facility. All of these services are dedicated to respecting the rights of people with Alzheimer’s disease, and supporting their carers. Please give generously. The Restoration of St. Mel’s Cathedral is progressing very well. Those who are interested will have an opportunity to see progress on the restoration project at an Open Day which is to be held on Sunday September 29. The Cathedral will open to visitors from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. This event is free of charge.

Fiona and Johnny Macken are holding a fundraising night in the Boomerang on Saturday 28 September in association with the Breffni Challenge to raise much-needed funds for St. Luke’s Hospital, Cavan Oncology Unit and Breast Cancer Research.

Granard Branch Library has moved from the town hall to Rath Mhuire Community Centre and will be opened every Friday from 10am to 5pm. This arrangement is due to the library building been refurbished.

A cheque for €12,174.72 has been lodged to the Abbeylara Parish Bank Account, by Revenue for the Tax Rebate Scheme for the years 2011 / 2012. Thanks very much too all the people who supported this scheme by completing and returning the CHY2 Tax Certs. Also thanks very much for the help given in compiling our application. This is a great help financially for our Parish funds for the day to day running expenses of our Parish.
