Open day

This Sunday, 29th September is Open Day in St. Mel’s Cathedral, Longford from 1.30p.m. to 4.30p.m. and interested parties are welcome to call free of charge to view the progress with the restoration work as it advances. The Cathedral will only be open to the public between these hours on Sunday, so if interested this is an opportunity to see the inside of the building.


Preparations for our Past Pupils Gathering event on Saturday, 26th October are now well advanced. Kevin has posted or delivered 840 invitations and many replies have already been received from places as far away as New York, Canada, England, Belfast, Wales etc. but we now ask those more local to reply in order to help with our catering plans, Tickets can be paid for in advance or on the day but we do need replies in the envelope supplied, to, Brian Nerney 08625966556, Alice Nerney, 086 8130780, Pat Duffy 086 8433355 or Kevin Brady 087 1375222 or you can email Please help us to make this a memorable event and renew old acquaintances. Please note that Streete Parish Park Vintage committee are holding their Presentation Social in Feerick’s Hotel this Saturday night, 28th October when cheques will be presented to the following three charities from the monies raised on our Philip Moran Memorial Tractor Run. This year our three charities are: - Irish Heart Foundation 2. Aware, who support sufferers with depression and prevention of suicide and, 3. Independent Living, for wheelchair users. Music will be supplied by Stephen Keary and friends and we will have a raffle for many prizes and finger food during the night. We will have a cover charge of €5 to help defray costs on the night. Our P.R.O. Philip Epps is still away but will be back for next week’s notes, all will be glad to know. Last week’s walk, (for those not watching the All Ireland). was with James & Marita MacNerney at Edenmore bog in North County Longford and as always was most enjoyable. Please note our next walk this Sunday is not as on our Calendar of Walks: we join members of The Irish Wheelchair Association Charity Walk from Mullingar to Coolnahay along the canal. Our group are asked to bring a few bob so we can give a donation from the club to this worthy charity. Please note the walk starts at 10.30 a.m. from the car park beside Mullingar Railway Station and a bus will be available to return walkers to Mullingar. The route is flat with no hills and medical staff will be available should they be needed during the walk. Refreshments and music in Coolnahay at the finish. Wildlife Club

The club will be releasing their pheasants throughout the parish over the next few weeks. All members are asked to note that an important club meeting will be held on this Thursday night 26th September in the Crossroads Inn Lisryan at 9pm. All members are asked to attend.

Boherquill Ramblers Walking Club proposes going on their Annual October trip on 11th October to Nenagh, Co. Tipperary staying out Friday night, Saturday night and returning to Mullingar Sunday evening. Price of €190 will include bus, hotel, B & B and evening meal on Saturday. Parents group

a reminder that our St. Fintan’s N.S. Lismacaffrey A.G.M. takes place this Thursday night, 26th September at 9p.m. in the School. Please support the group by attending this once a year event. Tea & A.G.M. Raffle on the night. This group is of great benefit to parents and children so please do your best to attend.
