An Enrolment Ceremony for those children from Gortletteragh National School who will be receiving First Communion was held during the 11.30 mass in Gortletteragh church on Sunday last. It was a lovely ceremony conducted by Father John Quinn with all the children participating in the mass. They told the simple story of the life of Christ, the way the Lord meant it to be told. The teachers do a wonderful job in preparing the children to receive the Sacraments of Penance and First Communion and should be commended on the diligent way they go about this preparation. Some of national pupils from the higher classes supplemented the Gortletteragh choir at the service. It was a truly enlightening ceremony.
Leitrim retain title
The Leitrim senior team continued their fine vein of form on Sunday last when they successfully retained their FBD title with a 2 – 5 to 1 – 7 win over neighbours Roscommon in the final in Páirc Seán. It was a good game of football with the Leitrim men having the better of the exchanges for most of the seventy minutes. Our clubman, Cathal McCrann had his usual steady game in the goals and was called on several times to cut out potential scores. We congratulate Cathal, his teammates and the Leitrim management team on their impressive success and wish them well in their opening league game against Antrim on Sunday next in Páirc Seán. The Leitrim Under 21 team finished off their Hastings Cup campaign the previous week with a convincing win over Wicklow. Well done to the Gortletteragh contingent of John Reynolds, Niall Woods and Padraig Gallagher, who were part of the squad and good luck to the team in the forthcoming Connacht championship.
