Cairn Hill Challenge
Annual Cairn Hill challenge 10mile and 10km Road race will take place on Sunday May 3rd starting out at Drumlish Community Centre and taking the same routes as last year. In conjunction with this years’ event, an informal walking/running/ jogging group is being organised. This fun group will act as preparation for the big race and getting fit generally. It will start on Feb 11th at Drumlish Community Centre and will be led by expert coach Brendan Doyle from Longford. This is a wonderful opportunity for runners, walkers, joggers and athletes of all abilities to get together and get fit in a relaxed setting while preparing for the May Bank Holiday. The day has finally come for all the little people of Ballinamuck, You and your family are cordially invited to the official opening of Ballinamuck Community Playground on Sunday, 2nd February next after 10am Mass. Everyone welcome, young and not so young! We hope to see you there!
Niamh Mary and Ciara Antoinette Devlin, daughters of Tyrone and Laura and Conor Seán Gearty-Reilly, son of Shane & Siobhán were baptised and welcomed into the faith family last week. We pray God’s blessing on these babies and their parents.
St. Brigid’s Day and Candlemas Day
Saturday next is St. Brigid’s Day. Sunday is Candlemas Day and is the Feast of The Presentation. St. Brigid’s Crosses and Candles will be blessed at Mass on Sunday. It is a lovely and wonderful tradition to make St. Brigid’s Crosses and have wax candles blessed and kept in your home throughout the coming year.
Final will be held on the weekend of February 21/22nd at a venue to be announced later.
Bingo is back in the 98 Hall every Tuesday at 8.30. Prizes galore. Why not come along and enjoy a night out and help our community keep our hall open !
Pope Francis said “The Joy of the Gospel is for every person”. The Alpha Course is a ten week course to help people come closer to Jesus and their faith. It starts on Thursday 6th February at 8pm in The Family Centre, St. Mel’s Road Longford. The Alpha Course is offered to all who want to know more about Christianity, including those passing on the Faith to the young and those who wish to embrace the Christian Faith. Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week will begin on Sunday, 26th January and will conclude on February 1st. The theme for Catholic Schools week this year is “Catholic Schools – places of Faith and Learning”. This year’s theme was chosen to highlight that all learning takes place in a values context. Catholic Schools Week is an occasion to celebrate the work and achievement of Catholic Schools in Ireland – North and South.
Brady-McKenna: In your prayers remember the soul of Mary Lizzie McKenn, (nee Brady), formerly Brooklagh, Drumlish, who died in Long Island, New York on Friday last. Pre-deceased by her husband Patrick, Mary Lizzie is the last member of the Brady family of that generation and was in her 98th year. She is survived by her son Pat (Junior) & Arlene McKenna, daughters Kathleen Tomasello, Rosemary & Peter Giampietro, Patricia & Gary Gable, Elizabeth McKenna, Eileen McKenna & Larry Rebich, Frances & John Colvin. Loving grandmother of thirteen, and adored great-grandmother of nine, Nieces - Eileen Cooney, Johnny &f amily, Barraghmore, Drumlish, Kathy Whitney, Noel & family, Clontubrid and nephew Gerry Brady MCC, Elizabeth & family, Creenagh, to whom we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. Funeral took place in Lynbrook following Mass of Christian, Burial at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Lynbrook, New York on Monday last.
Killeen: The death has occurred of Michael Killeen, Castle Court, Newtownforbes, at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Tuesday, 21st. January. Husband of the late Eilis, Michael is deeply regretted by his loving family, Garrett, Declan, Claire and Paul, daughter in law Geraldine, son-in-law Kevin, granddaughters, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law Sr. Loretto, (Galway), nephews-in-law, nieces-in-law, cousins, relatives and friends to whom we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.
Reynolds: The death also occurred peacefully at her residence in Newtownforbes of Mary Kate Reynolds,(nee Fitzsimons), mother of the late Jimmy. To her husband James, son Paddy, daughters Maeve, Irene, Monica and Carmel, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relations and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.
Crossan: The death occurred recently of Berney Crossan, Minard, Newtownforbes and formerly of Ardrum, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. The Shorinryu Karate classes Instructed by Sensie Michael O’Keeffe in the
Drumlish Community Centre, from this week on will have a time change from
Saturday mornings to Friday evening from 5.30 to 6.30pm, Sensie O’Keeffe is
