The annual Clonfin Commemoration will take place on this coming Sunday 2 February commencing with Mass in St. Mary’s Church Granard at 11.30am when the chief celebrant will be Bishop Colm O’Reilly. The commemoration ceremony will be at 3.00pm at the site of the Clonfin Ambush where Bishop Colm will be this year’s guest speaker. Refreshments will follow in McElvaney’s Coolarty. As this year’s commemoration takes place on the exact date of the famous battle the organizing committee are looking forward to a large attendance.

Men’s Social Club
The club has recommenced and a range of activities are being organised for the coming year. The next meeting date is Tuesday, 4 February at 12.30pm and there is always good food, good company and the afternoon is always a nice social event.
We will be meeting on Monday, 27 January in Rath Mhuire Centre from 11.00am - 3.00pm. Noel Monahan will be joining us and a light lunch will be available.

On the occasion of the first anniversary of The Mock Wedding of Mr Harry Cox and Ms Fonda Pheelan, Abbeylara Drama group are proud to present a Christening with a Twist on Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 February in Crover House Hotel, Mountnugent, commencing at 8.30pm each night. A meeting of Granard Pitch and Putt Club will be held on Wednesday, 5 February at 8.30pm in St. Mary’s GAA Clubhouse. All members please attend as some important items have to be discussed. Adoration and Vigil
The next First Friday/Saturday reparation and adoration vigil to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Please note that the first Friday and Saturday in February is split and the dates are different in our two venues. St Anne’s (former Mercy Convent), Convent Lane, Mohill is scheduled for this Friday the 31 January commencing at an earlier time of 8 pm. The venue is in the Chapel of Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown is scheduled for next Friday the 7 February commencing at 10 pm.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard at 8.45pm. Proceeds to St. Mary’s GAA and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is appreciated. Jackpot this week is in excess of €14,000.
On Friday last Co Librarian, Mary Carlton Reynolds gave an update on the progress of the restoration of the Market House and Library building. This is a very significant conservation project and everything is going according to plan and all going well the building should be ready for business for April 2014

Red Alert to all our walkers! We are very privileged to have an athlete from Longford Sports Partnership join us on this Friday 31 January at Higginstown Sports complex at 10.00am for the next 6 weeks to give us invaluable tips on walking whilst still having fun. Fee is €10 for the 6 weeks. This is open to non-members and all are welcome. The Club continues to meet on Saturday mornings at Higginstown Sports Complex meeting at 10.15am. Walks are local and duration is 45mins to 1 hour. New members welcome. See you all on Friday morning.
