A big thank you to all the people who kindly brought bags of unwanted clothes to Gortletteragh NS on Friday last for our Cash for Clobber fundraiser. The initiative was a huge success and your support is greatly appreciated.
5 km Walk, Jog and Run
Despite the rain showers, over 150 participants including children took part in the 5 km Walk, Jog, Run fundraiser on Sunday 17th November last. A big thank you to all of the participants, sponsors, organisers, stewards and An Garda Siochana who ensured that the event was a tremendous success. Your generosity, support and assistance is greatly appreciated. A special word of thanks to Drumgowna NS Reunion Committee for their generous donation to the fundraiser. Well done to all who participated and to all the people who achieved personal bests on the day. Congratulations to Mr. Peter Shalvey who won the event by completing the five kilometres in 16 minutes 58 seconds. Well done Peter! All proceeds from the event go towards the restoration of the roof of the Old School, Gortletteragh.
The annual church gate collection for Epilepsy Ireland taken up in Gortletteragh Parish amounted to €324. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to Aoife Rowe, (nee Bohan) who was conferred with a Masters MSc in
mental health nursing practice at a recent ceremony in DCU. A wonderful achievement for this busy young mother. Well done Aoife.
Rehab Fundraiser The recent fundraiser for the national rehab hospital Dunlaoghaire that took place in Fox’s of Tooman was an outstanding success. I would like to sincerely thank all the people who supported the event, whether they were among the large crowd that turned out on the night or who sent a donation before or since, their generosity is greatly appreciated. Thanks to the following who did a splendid job for the occasion, Mickey Dorrigan as MC, auctioneer Pat Bohan, Kevin Sorohan - Fitted Kitchens, who manufactured and sponsored the frame, Rosaleen Masterson Guilfoyle who sponsored the jersey, Patrick Guilfoyle who got the signatures of the Clare team, Raymond Latimer Print Works who sponsored the posters, Bridie Gilhooley who prepared the food, Sean Reynolds who oversaw the financial end of things, Mary Keenan Reynolds & Dervla Fox Guckian who dished out the refreshments, ably assisted by Fintan Faughnan. Thanks also to Kiernan’s Centra, Drumlish who sponsored the cocktail sausages, Jimmy & Kathleen Fox who made their premises available to us and they also sponsored the refreshments. Congrats to Joe Farrell of J’s Hotel Mohill who topped the poll with a bid of €420 for the beautiful frame and Jersey, the people who gave spot prizes - Barbara Niblock, Cll Sean McGowan, Rosaleen Sorohan and Miranda Moran. Thanks a lot to Eddie Quinn for providing very enjoyable music on the night, he was also the backing band for the late Larry Cunningham – he’s also a very successful business man and he supplies Sheelin eggs over a huge area including Fox’s. Thanks to Joan Donlon who gave a lovely rendition of a couple of her favourite numbers to keep the Tooman - Clooncumber flag flying. On my own behalf and that of Rehab Dunlaoghaire , we again thank everyone for their wonderful support - as we go to press the funds collected so far stands at €3143 – the account will remain open for a couple of more weeks to allow for people who for one reason or another may not have contributed to this very worthy cause.
The annual general meeting of South Leitrim/West Cavan (Ballinamore) Vintage Tractor Society takes place on Thursday night 21st November upstairs in the Poor Scholar Pub, Ballinamore at 9pm. New members welcome.
We offer our sympathies to the Gray families, Tooman and Farnaught on the recent death of their aunt, Mary Gray-Quinney, Currabawn, Drumlish. May she rest in peace
