White Collar Boxing
Preparations are now well under way for our eagerly anticipated White Collar Boxing night in Drumlish Community Centre on Saturday night 7th December. There will be 10 bouts on the night which promises to be a great evenings’ entertainment. There will be a bar extension on the night. Many famous names from the area and outside have signed up to take part with some mouth-watering fights lined up. It’s a long time since there has been a Boxing event in our area and the night will no doubt bring back fond memories of the glory days of St Vincent’s boxing club which produced numerous Longford/ Westmeath and Leinster champions in the past. The club are raising funds for a new grass pitch facility to cater for our ever expanding club. There is an average of 120 children aged between 6 and 16 playing each year and the addition of a Senior team this season has brought a further 50 players into the club and we hope to have 2 teams at this level next season. So why not come and enjoy a great nights’ entertainment on December 7th at Drumlish Community Centre as well as supporting the clubs fundraising efforts.

In recognition of Jamie’s outstanding achievement TV3 subsequently decided to film at the local school, much to all the children’s delight. This was part of a competition run by TV3 who are visiting every county in Ireland looking for a local legend. All primary schoolchildren are being asked to take part and to nominate someone they feel deserves the title Local Legend. Indeed you are Paddy and well done to your grandson Jamie. Together with the local community I wish Jamie well and congratulate him on this wonderful achievement and I wish you Paddy and Mary every success and hope you win it outright..
