Mrs Nancy Gaffney
There was an air of sadness over the area when it was learned that Nancy Gaffney, Drumcrave, Cavan, nee Brady, had passed to her eternal reward recently. Having been ill for some time she bore her sickness with great fortitude supported by her family and her strong faith. Aged 69 she was daughter of Patrick and Mary Ann Brady, Grousehall and attended Loughduff N.S. and Convent of Marcy, Granard before training as a nurse in Galway Regional hospital. She is survived by her husband Eamon and daughters Aisling and Aoife and sons Rossa and Daragh, sisters Sr Andrea, Mary, Shiela, Helen, Nuala and Gabrielle, brothers Canon Bernard, Mattie, Peter and Noel and a large extended family circle to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. Congratulations to the boys from the local N.S. who put in a great performance to won their division in fine style recently. This group won the u12 championship earlier in the year, also the u14 championship and this win is indeed a bonus at the end of a very successful year for underage. Well done to the lads and their coach Ronan Donnelly and all the parents and supporters.
As the 3 year term of the present council is due to expire shortly nominations for new Council should be forwarded to council members or to Parochial house 043.6683141.
While forecasters have warned of a cold spell this week the very mild weather at the weekend was a bonus with the long dark evenings closing in. Land is sodden due to recent heavy rain and all cattle have now been housed.
