Gold for Cian
Cian McPhillips competing in the Woodies All Ireland Cross Country Championships in Santry last Sunday completed an unprecedented treble of national titles for a Longford athlete when he won the under 12 boys gold medal. He can now add this All Ireland to the under 12 indoor and outdoor 600m titles to become the best under 12 athlete in the country. Cian dominated the race from start to finish and he received tremendous support from his Ardagh team mates Brendan Finnan and Cathal Farrell. Both Brendan and Cathal were competing in their first All Ireland in an age group a full year above their age and in a field of 125 runners. They ran super races and celebrated wildly when they realised that their team mate had won the gold medal. All three boys attend St Mel’s National School and have also won the Division 1 GAA Championship and the Team of the Year Award in the Longford Sports Partnership Awards when the Community Games Mixed Distance Relay team were honoured. What a week!
