The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday 11th November. The Jackpot was €4,700 – Numbers drawn were 4/ 7 / 12 / 22. No winner – €50 winners – Brían Ellis, Arva. Sandra Mc Kee, C/o John Gormley. Cian & Conal Sheridan, Hollybank. The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 18th November was €4,750-00. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. Contact any club officer or check out the club website Arva Ladies GFC: training for all ages continues throughout November on Saturdays at 11.30 am and on Wednesdays (fitness training) at 7 pm weather permitting. As the Club is already making plans for next season, we are especially looking for girls in the parish who are born in the years of 96/97/98 in order to create a panel for U16/U18. We also welcome interested girls born in 2002/03/04 to strengthen and build up a new U12 team. Off course, all girls interested in this beautiful team sport are welcome to attend and register. Challenge: The football club fundraising venture which was due to take place on Saturday last 16th November called the Croagh Patrick Challenge / Clew Bay Walk had to be postponed and will now take place on Saturday 8th February. The club would urge everyone to keep up their efforts to get Sponsorship in the intervening weeks. Vote: Congratulations are extended to Brian (Beano) Ellis on his selection as one of four players nominated for the Cavan Junior Player of the Year. There are four nominations in each category – Junior / Intermediate / Senior and the winner will be selected by the votes of supporters. To Vote for Brian you send the vote to 57003 and enter Cavan 109. You will get a message of thanks by return. Votes cost €1-00 each. The winners will be announced and presented with their awards at a Banquet in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan on this Friday night 22nd November. Tickets for this prestigious event are selling fast so anyone wishing to attend should contact the club Secretary on 087 6794 215 immediately. Presentation: On this Saturday night 23rd November Granard St Mary’s will make a presentation to Arva GAA Club in the Breffni Arms Hotel and everyone is invited to attend. This is part of the proceeds of the very successful day held recently in Granard with the re-enactment of the first ever recorded football match by a Granard team was played between Granard Healy’s and Arva Davitts. Both teams were dressed in period costume and the game was played under 1888 rules. It was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all present.

Table Quiz

On Saturday of next week 30th November Arva GAA will host a Table Quiz in the Breffni Arms Hotel and they call on all members and supporters to participate. It will be a Fun Night and refreshments will be served at the interval.

Breffni Challenge

If there are people with Sponsorship Cards for the annual Breffni 20 K Challenge could they please return them to Arva Post Office as soon as possible but not later than Friday of next week - 29th November. The proceeds will be presented to the three charities within the next couple of weeks. Each year St Luke’s Hospital, Dublin, N.B.C.R.I. Galway and Cavan Cancer Homecare receive much needed funding as a result of the generosity of many people who take part or sponsor participants in the Breffni 20 K.

Church Services

For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – This Sunday 24th November Service of Morning Prayer in Carrigallen and Columbkille at 10.00 am and in Arva and Gowna at 11.30 am.

Praise Service: The monthly Praise Service will be held in Corlisbratten Methodist Church, Arva on this Sunday evening at 8.00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served afterwards in the adjoining hall.

Line Dancing

Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel every Thursday night at 8.30 pm for Beginners and at 9.30 pm for the more advanced. Everyone is welcome so come along and enjoy a night of dancing and exercise in a friendly environment.

Slimming World

Lacken Camogie are celebrating 25 years on Friday 6th December 2013. The celebration will start with Mass in St Michael’s Church, Potahee followed by a Champagne Reception, Pig on Spit / Hot Food Buffet from 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm in the Millennium Bar, Ballinagh. There will be a Medal Presentation at 10.30 pm followed by dancing to Phil & Cossie. A great night’s craic guaranteed. Keep Fit

Be safe-be seen

With the dark evenings now upon us we urge pedestrians / cyclists to make sure to wear reflective clothing while out walking or on their bikes. It is impossible for drivers to see pedestrians / cyclists who wear dark clothing and there is an ample range of appropriate gear available.

Yoga class

Beginners class commenced on Monday last November 18th from 7.00 pm to 8.15 pm for 6 weeks in the Market House, Market Square, Arva. The class will focus on relaxation, strengthening, stretching & balance. Please bring mat and blanket. For further information contact Ruth on 0879622674

Christmas Lights

The Switch-on of the town Christmas lights and the annual visit of Santa Claus takes place on Saturday the 14th December at 4pm. The Lights will be switched on at the Christmas tree on the Market Square kindly donated by Brady’s of Arva. Local Carol Signing will take place. This year businesses are requested to give generously to the cost of the Christmas lighting and Santa gifts. Tickets for the Christmas Hamper draw will be on sale in all outlets in Arva from Friday 22nd November.
