Death of Jody McGuire

It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death, in his late ‘seventies of Jody McGuire, Tashinney, Colehill in the loving care of his heartbroken wife, Nancy and their great big family. Jody worked with Bord na Mona for a long number of years and was very popular with all his workmates there. Himself and Nancy celebrated no less than their 50th Wedding Anniversary very recently. Jody will be hugely missed in the area, he was an honest and decent gentleman and had a word for everyone, it was always a pleasure to have a chat with him. The respect with which he was held by everyone was most evident by the large number of people who called to the McGuire home where Jody lay in repose last week and again at the Removal to the Church in Carrickedmond and at the Funeral Mass on Thursday morning last. We extend our sincere sympathy to Jody’s wife, Nancy, sons Seamus, fellow Correspondent, Michael, Sean and Paul, daughters Noeleen, Ann, Imelda and Geraldine, his brother and sisters, grandchildren and all his relatives, neighbours and many friends. May God grant rest to his Soul.

One per cent difference
During the week on John Mooney’s RTE Radio 1 show, people were asked to nominate community heroes from their area who deserved recognition for their tireless work and each day one person was chosen from the many entries whom John felt was the fitting winner on the day. Last Wednesday’s winner, nominated by Chris Connolly, was Phil Fallon, Drynan whose “little kindnesses” were acknowledged. Phil is a frequent visitor to the sick and needy in the area which she does in her own quiet way and for her many kind acts she is being sent off for a weekend for two to Roundwood House Hotel in Mountrath, Co Laois. Well done Phil, a well-deserved treat for you.
