League: Arva travelled to Rathluden on Saturday evening last to play Kill in the Brady’s Volkswagen Division 3 League and after a highly entertaining game the home side came out on top with three points to spare – 1-13 to 1-10. Leading by 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval the home side were never in danger although the visitors did well in the second half. This was a step up in class for Arva as Kill were in Division 2 for the past few seasons and also in Intermediate championship. Come Dine With mE: St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club ‘Come Dine with Me’ function was a fantastic success on Saturday night last. Over 240 supporters attended the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex where the food was first class and there was great entertainment. A presentation was made to Eugene & Deirdre Fitzpatrick and Dean & Jennifer Harrington who were married in the past year. On behalf of the club we thank Gerry Brady who done his usual fantastic job as MC, all the Artist’s who performed, the Hosts and Eamonn & Philomena Gray for all the work involved in providing the food. This was one of the best club night’s we ever had and we also than the supporters who raised much needed money for the club. Congratulations to Arva GAA Chairperson Niall Brady who celebrated a significant birthday on Saturday night last with 240 club supporters at Come Dine with Me in the Breffni Arms Hotel. We wish him many more happy days.

Church Services: Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Sunday, May 12 Service of Morning Prayer in Carrigallen at 10am and in Arva at 11.30am. Service of Holy Communion in Columbkille at 10am and in Gowna at 11.30am. Please note services in Arva are in the hall as work continues on the new roof of the Church.

Lourdes: The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from May 27 to June 1 led by Bishop Leo O’ Reilly. Bookings may be made for the Assisted Pilgrim Section with Rev Kevin Fay, Lavey on 087 857 9968 / 049 433 0018. Bookings for Hotels is through McGinnity Travel, Coleman Road, Cavan on 049 4331 831. If anyone feels that someone in their family or a neighbour would benefit from taking part in this Pilgrimage they should contact Fr Fay. There are a limited number of places still available.

Confirmation: On Sunday, May 12 the Bishop of Kilmore Most Rev Dr Leo O’Reilly will impart the Sacrament of Confirmation on the children of the Parish. There will be a special Mass at 3.00 pm and we wish God’s Blessing on them all.

Mass Times: From Sunday last May 5 the Sunday Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea will be at 9am. Mass in Arva and Killeshandra remain at 10am and 11am as at present.

Social Night: The Arva Social Club will hold a Social night on this Wednesday, May 8 commencing at 7.30pm. All the local Social Clubs have been invited and everyone is welcome. Music will be provided by Mike Beasley. The Social Club are holding a Monster Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex on Friday, June 7. Tickets are €2 each with a book of 3 costing €5. The 1st prize is an Evening Meal plus B&B in McNean Bistro, Blacklion. This is a fantastic prize as Neven Maguire and staff have one of the best Restaurants in the country. 2nd prize is a Kindle iPod, 3rd prize is a fantastic Genesis Clock with many more prizes on the day.

Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue on each Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is over €3,100 in prize money on offer each week (€1,000-00 on page 9 won by Frank Fitzpatrick) making it one of the best around. Eyes down at 9pm.

Tea Day: The 4th Annual Tea Day in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society will take place on Friday, May 17 in the shop unit, Main Street, Arva (Beside Donnelly Butchers) by kind permission of Michael Ellis. Everyone is welcome from 10am so please come and have a cuppa and support this worthy cause. Pool Lifeguard Course: Under the auspices of Irish Water Safety will be held in Arva during the months of June and July. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Helen O’Hara on 086 895 2925

Free Money: Saturday night’s raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. On this Saturday night there will be €300 on offer. Free entry to the draw. You must be there to win – the draw takes place anytime after 10pm.

Line Dancing: Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva every Thursday night with classes for Beginners at 8.30pm and for the more Advanced at 9.30pm.

Cavan Walking FestivaL: The Arva Trotters are hosting the Brankhill Walk as part of the Cavan Walking Festival on Saturday, May 11 at 3pm. We would like to invite everyone to join us on a stroll through the beautiful Arva countryside. We will be meeting at 2.30pm at the Breffni Arms Hotel and the walk will take approximately 1 hour no matter your ability!

Development association: Arva Area Development Association monthly meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at 8.30pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel.

Spanish Students Summer Camp: Following the success of the previous two year’s camp, another group of Spanish Students are returning to Moyne Community School from Tuesday, July 2 to Tuesday, July 23.
