Lotto Draw: St Columba’s GFC held their weekly lotto draw in The Angler’s Rest on Wednesday, May 1. The numbers drawn were 2, 10, 22, 28 with the jackpot of €2,450 remaining intact. Ladies Footballers: As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in local shops or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night draw you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The winning number on Saturday, May 4 was 35. Unfortunately there was not a winner.

Lourdes: The diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from Monday, May 27 to Friday, May 31. Total cost for five nights is €699. For further information telephone 01 2410812. Reminder: The 3rd Annual Cycle and Climb to Croagh Patrick for the Parish of Granard Lourdes Invalid Fund, will take place on Saturday, June 1. 2012 was a very successful and enjoyable day as over forty cyclists completed the event. Many more also participated in the climb. We hope this year will be equally successful as there is plenty of time for any aspiring cyclists to get into shape.

Open Air Festival: The Colmcille Mentally Handicapped Association will hold it’s annual open air festival at Dring Car Park on Sunday, June 2. Situated on the shores of Lough Gowna this event is always a fun day for all the family. Events will include Baby show, Face painting, Jumble sale and much more. As usual there will be music to suit all tastes. We appeal to all to keep this date free. Your support will help out a very worthy cause – St Christopher’s School.

Bereavement: The sympathy of the community is extended to Fr Fitzpatrick PP, Loch Gowna on the recent death of his brother Liam, Shannonbridge. He is also survived by his wife Kay, sons Tony and David, daughters Jackie and Helen, grandchildren, brothers Tom, Sean, Joe, Michael and Tony, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces to whom our condolences are also extended. May he rest in peace.

Community Games: Pride of place this week goes to our U11 mixed basketball team on defeating Longford North on Sunday last on a score line of 20 points to 10 points. They now go forward to represent their county in the next stage of the competition. Results of our sports day will be published next week.

Death: Condolences are extended to Jo McGovern Matthews, Culleenmore on the death of her mother Anna McGovern, Carragh following an illness borne with great dignity and courage. The late Anna will be remembered as a pleasant and friendly lady. Her passing will certainly leave a void with her family and neighbours. She is also survived by her husband Hugh, sons Johnny and Cubie, daughter Peig, sons-in-law Fergus and Martin, daughter-in-law Lexie, sister Maggy, brother Bernard, brother-in-law Peter, sisters-in-law Bessie and Mary, niece Mary, nieces and nephews-in-law and grandchildren to whom we also extend our sympathy. May she rest in peace.
