On Thursday, August 29, Respond Housing Association hosted an open day at their community building in Western Park, Townspark.
From 5pm to 6pm, the group gathered with residents of the area to promote a community garden which was created by some of the residents with funding by Respond Housing and features donated by local shops. A meeting was also held to discuss other possible projects.
Along with promoting the idea of community, the aim of the project is to give men who are unemployed the chance to contribute to these worthwhile projects.
One resident involved in the open day was happy with how the event went, and adds that many showed interest in the ideas brought before them, particularly a tree-planting project. The resident also noted that with a number of different nationalities in the area, the projects are a great way of getting to know all the neighbours. “It’s nice for us all to mingle” he added.
