Tidy Towns: The next meeting of Granard Tidy Towns takes place on Wednesday 27 February at 8.30pm in the Greville Arms. Please come along and support.

St. Mary’s Church: During the season of Lent Mass will be celebrated twice daily at 9.30am and 7.30pm.

Come and Pray: Lunchtime Prayer around the Cross each Friday during Lent in St. Mary’s Church from 1.00pm to 1.30pm. Place your prayer needs and worries at the fott of the Cross during this special time.

The Gathering: Cemetery Sunday is on Sunday 4 August in Granardkille Cemetery. The parish are taking this opportunity to avail of the day as a Gathering for all who are visiting the Community remembering the ones who have gone before us. The proberb “When we drink the water we should remember the ones who dug the well” this will be an opportunity to Rememer to Celebrate and to Welcome. If you have relations or family members living abroad maybe you could invite them for this special occfasion.

Coffee Morning: The Ethnic Liaison Officers and Community Gardai from Granard Garda Station would like to welcome you to a coffee Morning aimed at promoting Diversity in Granard District. The puurpose of this informal gathering is to get to know each other and to promote recognition that Diversity is not only abot differences in terms of nationality or ethnic background. We also need to recognise acknowledge and respect differences in Family Status, Age Physical and Mental Ability, Gender; Sexual Orientation, Marital Status, Religious Belief and the Traveller way of life. Local members of An Garda Siochana and memebrs from the Garda Racial, Intercultural and Diversity Office will be on hand to inform those in attendance of Garda Support Services which are available to support intergration through encouraging involvement in local events such as Neighbourhood Watch and Community Alert to assist in the investigation of Rachist/homophobic incidents and above all to listen and offer practical support and advice on all aspects of day to day policing. The venue is Lus na Greine Family Resource Centre Main St. Granard on Tuesday 26 February 2013 at 11.00am.

I.C.A.: At the February monthly meeting of Granard guild Rosemary Gaynor from Granard branch Library gave us a very interesting talk on all aspects of Granard local Library and the services they provide. At the next meeting on 7 March Lucy Callaghan will be the guest speaker. The Federation Table Quiz takes place on this Thursday 21 February in the Chestnut Tree Killashee at 8p.m. Tables of 4 €20 entry fee. Refreshments will be served. Winners of the quiz go on to represent Longford at National level in April. National recruitment day takes place on Saturday 2 March and we will have promotional tables in Tesco and Supervalu Shopping Malls in Longford from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. approx. Names of volunteer members to be present at the tables will be taken at the table quiz. The Longford Gathering Steering Group invite you to attend the official launch of the Longford Gathering 2013 which will be held on Monday 25 February 2013 at 8pm in the Backstage Theatre, Longford. The evening will feature a showcase of Longford talent and Minister Michael Ring TD will attend the official launch. The Federation Lotto Jackpot of €500 was won at the draw on Wednesday 13 February. Numbers drawn were 4, 11, 21 and 26. The lucky winner was a non member Sheila Corrigan Gaigue Ballinamuck. Happy spending Sheila. The Jackpot starts off again at €100 for our next draw on 27 February. Thanks to all who support our Lotto.

Pilates Classes: Get in shape for 2013 a 6 week course will recommence on Tuesday 12 March in for 6 weeks in the Community Centre Edgeworthstown at 7.30pm for beginners and 8.30pm Intermediate Class. Agricultural Show: A15 card drive in aid of Granard Agricultural Show will take place in John V. Donohoe’s Granard on Friday night 8 March 2013 at 9pm.  Tickets are on sale at €2 each or 3 for €5.  Please support.  The 61st show is on Saturday 20th July at Higginstown.

Gospel Concert: The Virginia Gospel Choir will perform in St. Mary’s Church, Castletown / Finea on Friday 15 March 2013 at 8 o’clock.  Proceeds towards St. Michael’s National School.

Citizens Information: An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

MABS: An adviser from MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Service) is in attendance at Granard Area Action Group office each Monday morning from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

Moatsider’s Active Age: A great evening was had by many of us at Longford Cinema recently and we look forward to doing it again in the future. We are also looking forward to visiting the Backstage in the coming months. Our next meeting will be on Thursday 21 February at 2.30pm and are planning to have some yoga.. New members very welcome. Men’s Social Club: Our next date is Tuesday 19 February meeting at 12 noon in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre – we are looking forward to getting back outdoors to the garden now that Spring approaches, as well as continuing with our collection of stories. Dolmen Centre: - Augnacliffe Dolmen Failte Club - (Active Age & Retirement Group) - Dates for February /March - Tuesday 26 February- Tuesday 12 March -Tuesday 26 March. We meet at 2.00pm and are always involved in a range of activities and always make new participants very welcome. Transport available. Easter Festival: On Easter weekend – Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March, all roads will lead to Granard for the Easter Festival! An exciting schedule of events is planned for the weekend including a 5K Run, Novelty Tug-O-War, Easter Egg Hunt, Parade, Artisan Food Fare, live music and lots of children’s entertainment! All are welcome. Watch this space in the coming weeks for more details on events!

Table Quiz: A table quiz to help defray costs of running the above festival will take place in Fay’s Bar on Friday 1st March. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Bingo: Takes place each Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Your continued support is much appreciated. Jackpot this Wednesday night is in excess of €9000.

Aerial Creation Centre: Fidget Feet have received funding through the EU Leader fund to conduct a feasibility study on the construction of an Irish Aerial Dance Creation Centre at their base just outside Rathowen Co. Westmeath. This facility would provide space for extensive workshops and training for national and international aerial dance practitioners, creation space for companies to develop and rehearse new work, a space for Fidget Feet to explore and produce their own work and a studio space which would offer a range of workshop opportunities in circus, aerial yoga, general fitness and set up a youth circus company for local residents. An Information Day takes place on Sunday 17 February Backstage Theatre, Longford 12pm -2pm. Streete Hall, Streete Co. Westmeath from 4-6pm. Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre is an internationally renowned company that is one of Ireland’s own. Your contributions would be very welcome. Folk Group Re-Union: St. Mary’s Folk Group Re-union (1975-1990 approx). We are hoping to have a get-together on the afternoon of Saturday 6 July in Granard. We would appreciate if you could pass on a Cead Mile Failte to family members/friends who were part of this group and who now are sway from home. “Reminiscence, Refreshments Rehearsal” are the key words for the Gathering.
