GARDA HOURS: Supt Ian Lackey has agreed to provide Garda office hours for two days a week in Ballinalee for “a trial period of 3 months. The opening hours will be Monday 1pm – 3pm and Thursday 4pm – 6pm starting on Monday March 11. The office will be located in the old credit union office beside the Post office. This office is being provided free of charge by myself on behalf of the community. We urge people to use this facility as it will be reviewed after 3 months.
VIGIL: Monthly First Friday/Saturday all night reparation vigil to the Sacred and Immaculate hearts of Jesus and Mary will take place on Friday next commencing at 10pm in the Chapel of Our Lady’s Manor Edgeworthstown. A reparation vigil has also commenced in Saint Anne’s (former Convent) lane, Mohill at the same date and time. For further information contact 086 0405621.
THOMAS ASHE HALL: The Last performance in the Thomas Ashe Hall before its closure for 6 – 8 weeks on Friday next for a complete revamp and BER (Building Energy Rating) upgrade took place on Friday night last with a hilarious presentation of The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley (Jimmy Keary) by the Acorn Players Carrigallen. It was a side-splitting comedy about the love life of a middle aged bachelor farmer at the end of which the audience gave the cast a standing ovation. The parish pastoral council at its February meeting on Wednesday last thanked local councillor for securing a grant aid of 75% from Longford Community Resources Ltd for the project to which the parish also contributed 12500 euro. The Hall Committee hopes to make up the shortfall of 7500 euro by fundraising. Out of ten e tender submissions local building contractors, the Fox Brothers were successful in getting the contact and will start the work on Monday March 4 next. E tendering through the public procurement website is a statuary requirement in the case of projects grant-aided from government funds. For more information contact Michael Carrigy.
REACHING OUT INITIATIVE: Launch of Longford reaching Out Initiative. An exciting new project is being launched in Longford library on Tuesday March 5 by Henry Healy, a relative of president Barack Obama. Longford Reaching Out aims to help local communities to make connections with the descendants of people who emigrated from their areas.
