Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the soul of John McKiernan, Drumnakeeran, Cornafean, Co. Cavan, who died on Wednesday 4 September, father of Peadar McKiernan, Abbeylara. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Nuala and Padraig Quinn, Ballinacross on the birth of their second child, a boy recently. The new arrival has being called Niall and is a welcome brother for John.

Benefit/Fundraising Night

A Benefit/Fundraising night will be held in Crawford’s Bar, Abbeylara on Saturday, 28 September. A Raffle for a hamper, knitted nativity set and numerous other prizes will be held on the night. There will be Music on the night by Mary O’Connor. All proceeds from the night including the raffle are going directly to Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Irish Heart Foundation

Hold their annual collection at all Masses on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September. Please support.

Parish Draw

Takes place on Thursday 12 September in Carra Church at 8.30 p.m. after the 7.30 p.m. Mass and Adoration. Any monies due to the draw please hand in before then. You are welcome to attend the draw.

Pattern Day

Takes place on Sunday 15 September in Clonmacnoise with Holy Mass at 3p.m. The recommendations for the celebrations of the Year of Faith that came from the Holy See included celebrations in sacred places where pilgrims gather. The Pattern Day in Clonmacnoise is an event which actually fits what is recommended.

Public Meeting

GMCE –Proposed purchase of NAMA property; a public meeting to discuss progress to date will take place on Tuesday next, September 17, at 8.30pm in the Community Centre, Barrack St. Granard. Much progress has recently been made and we are on track to develop a visitor centre which we can all be proud of and which will, over time, help create employment, both direct and indirect. This will also be our first meeting since we held the “Granada Reunion Festival Weekend”, so a full report on this event will also be given.

Tidy Towns

Results were announced on RTE at 7pm on Monday evening. Next meeting is on Thursday at 8pm, to discuss how we got on in this competition.  Winners of Saturday nights Bonus Ball for August were: Emma Boyle, Tom Macken, Peter Hynes, Colin Farrell and Loretta Lynch. Numbers are available at Farrell’s shop. It could be you.

Episcopal Ordination

The Ordination of Fr. Francis Duffy as Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise takes place on Sunday 6 October in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone at 3p.m. Abbeylara has been allocated 4 tickets. Anyone intending to go to the Ordination please give your name to Fr. Michael as soon as possible.

Yoga

A six week yoga course commences with your invaluable long term instructor Maureen Bracken in the Thomas Ashe Hall, Ballinalee on Wednesday 18 September from 8.00pm to 9.30pm with enrolment on the night. FETAC Courses

Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard is currently enrolling for FETAC Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. These FETAC Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. They also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. Students may be eligible for further education grants and be able to retain their social welfare benefits subject to usual conditions. Memorial Walk

A Rita Nannery Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday 22 September in the Mullahoran/ Kilcogy area. Proceeds to Bothar and the local Apostolic Society. More details later.

Lough Derg

A bus will travel to Lough Derg on Saturday 21 September for a one day pilgrimage. The cost is €40 plus the bus fare. The €40 covers the boat fare, refreshments on the island after arrival, light lunch on the island and all the services on the island. To book your seats contact Fr. Michael, 6686270.

Foroige Youth Club

An inaugural meeting to set up a Foroige Club in Granard area will be held in Lus Na Greine on Wednesday, 25 September at 7.30 pm. We welcome volunteers, parents and all young people interested in this to come along. It is envisaged that this club will run alongside all our other youth services and youth groups as normal.

Brain Injury Ireland

Work4You set up by Acquired by Brain Injury Ireland provides a free vocational assessment service for individuals who have an acquired brain injury and want support to return to work, training or education. It is free to anyone with an acquired brain injury, aged 16-65 and in receipt of a payment from the Department of Social Protection. For further information please call 044 9338773.

A/G Bingo

Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Your continued support is very much appreciated. Jackpot is now €12,100.

Adult Learning Centre

Do you need help with reading, writing, spelling, maths or computers? If you do, please call into the centre or ring us at 043 6686211 and we will do all we can to help.
