Ballymahon & District Credit Union is now accepting entries for its Third Level Scholarship. The Scholarship is open to students who completed their Leaving Cert exams in 2013, attended either the Vocational School or Mercy Secondary School in Ballymahon and are members of Ballymahon & District Credit Union Applicants must be commencing a FAS Apprenticeship or a full time Certificate, Diploma or Degree Course at any University, IT or approved third level college. The scholarship will be paid at a rate of €1,000 per annum for a maximum of three years. Entry forms and further details are available from the Credit Union office. Closing date for receipt of entries is 28th September 2013.
Set Dancing will start back again at Tang Community Centre on this Wednesday night, 11th September and every Wednesday night at 8.30p.m. Newcomers are always welcome.
Tidy Towns Draw
Ballymahon Tidy towns committee are running a Bonus Number Draw every Wednesday night. Numbers cost €2 each or €10 for 5 weeks and can be got from Paul Kelly at 086 3490704.
Ballymahon Traders Association is hosting a Networking Evening for local businesses on Friday, 4th October at 7.30p.m. in Cooney’s Hotel. All local businesses are invited no matter how large or small to attend and get to know what everybody has to offer. Their aim is to get local people supporting each other where possible. 2nd Longford Scout Group
Registration night for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will take place in The Den, opposite Nally’s Garage on Monday 16th September from 7p.m. to 9p.m. Registration fee is €50 per child. The Group are now also recruiting new Leaders , so anybody who is interested in becoming a Leader or even to help them out please let one of the Leaders know. Garda Vetting is a requirement.
Community Alert: Following a recent Committee meeting, attended by Area Officers and Garda Tom Regan, discussions included, highlighting the need to remain vigilant at all times especially as we are approaching winter and be mindful of the elderly, vulnerable and those living alone.
Mercy Secondary School here in Ballymahon, Class of 1988 will be holding a re-union on Saturday, September 14th. Mass will be celebrated at 6p.m. in the school, followed by -a meal and disco in Cooney’s hotel at 7.30p.m. .D J till late. Tickets are now on sale @ €25. Tang GAA Gathering
As part of the 2013 Gathering, Tang GAA Club will be hosting a Barbecue to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the 1973 Tang team, Winners of the Westmeath Intermediate football championship. A fantastic night of food, music, song and craic is promised. This will be held on Saturday 14th September at “The Three Jolly Pigeons” from 7.30p.m. to 9.30p.m.. Tickets are €10 each.

Congratulations to Ballymahon Forgney Gaels U-12 team who are now in the final of the U-12 Mini League Plate competition having beaten St. Vincent’s in the semi-final on Thursday evening last at Leo Casey Park. It was a cracker of a game with a great crowd of supporters which went into extra time. Well done boys and girls, we wish you the best of luck in the Final.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Oliver Casserly, (Dublin and Toome, Ballymahon) and to his brothers Joe, Januarious and Patrick and sisters Bridie, Mary and Irene on the death last week of their mother, Kathleen (nee Fallon), Newtowncashel in her 95th year at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, also to Kathleen’s brother James, sisters Veronica and Philomena and to all her relatives and many friends. May she rest in peace.
