1st in Leitrim
For over thirty years now Dromod have taken 1st place in Leitrim in the National Tidy town’s competition. On Monday last in the Helix Dublin the awards ceremony took place and secretary of Dromod Tidy Towns committee John Reilly accepted 1st prize in Leitrim and a gold medal on behalf of his village. This is a great achievement for Dromod and it is just reward to all the great work that went into keeping the village so well. Dromod increased their score by 4 marks, so take a bow T.P. John and all involved. We will print the full adjudicators report in the coming weeks.
There will be a fundraising social to help Oisin McGovern, son of John and Patrice. Oisin is receiving treatment following surgery in Our lady’s children’s Hospital, Crumlin . The social will take place in J’s Hotel Mohill on Friday September 20th with music on the night by Tom Moran, Feargal McGill and friends. Admission Optional. Doors open at 9pm. There are also tickets on sale for anyone who wishes to support but can not go on the night. We send our congratulations to my niece Marian Woods and her partner Paul Martin on the birth of their son to be named Noah, brother to Hayley born in Sligo General Hospital on Friday last. We wish you health and happiness for the future.
It’s that time of year again the children are back at school and it’s time The Hive kicked back into action again. We will be having enrolment on this Friday night the 13th from 7:30-9pm. The youth club is open to any child living in the parish or attending Bornacoola national school from second class to leaving cert. New members are always welcome. We look forward to seeing you all on Friday night.
Set dancing returns
Set dancing class will start again for the winter on Tuesday night de 17th of September at 9pm in The Welcome Inn, Cornageeha, new beginners always welcome.
We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Annie Guckian, (Nee) Guckian, Correaish, Drumsna and formerly Mong Leitrim Village who died on Saturday last at St Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick on Shannon. Annie was laid to rest in Kiltoghert cemetery on Monday last. May she Rest in Peace .
The August draw in the Bornacoola GAA club draw took place on Saturday week last in the Copper Still, thanks to all who supported and to Tom Moran for the music. Winners were as follows: €100 Julie Earley, Mohill €20 each Mary Reynolds c/o D. Bohan, Tom Moran, Gerry Mulligan, Derek Hunt, Conor Hackett.
All Ireland Golden Goal
Dublin have joined Mayo in the All Ireland football final and the club are once again running the Golden Goal competition in conjunction with the big game. The first prize of €500 will paid to the person who purchases the ticket with the correct time in which the first goal will be scored in the Senior All Ireland football final on September 22nd. Tickets are currently on sale from club members at €5 each for which you get four specific times.
