All Ireland Fleadh

The Ballinagh branch of Comhaltas wish to congratulate firstly Eimear Bogue All Ireland fleadh bronze medal winner in Banjo. We would also like to express our admiration for Seamus Tierney who was a very worthy winner of not 1 but 3 All Ireland fleadh medals, gold in both the tin whistle and flute dance tunes and a bronze for slow airs in flute. Well done Seamus. Congratulations also to Orla Sheridan All Ireland gold medal winner in Harp to Conor Kiernan on his All Ireland Fleadh silver medal in senior piano and to Bronagh Sweeney All Ireland fleadh bronze medal winner in mandolin. We would also like to acknowledge the great achievement of Eamonn Maguire , our gifted story teller, who came first in the Ulster Fleadh. In fact we extend our congratulations to all those from Cavan who took part or won medals in Derry and Ulster. We wish to say how proud we are of all of them.

European parliament

Congratulations to fellow scribe and Kilnaleck correspondent Peter Brady who has accepted an invitation to address the European parliament in Brussells in November. A highly successful business man and well known journalist Peter is chairman of Cavan drama festival and Cavan Camogie board and a former chairman of Cavan county Board GAA.

New TV show

Congratulations and every success to Frank Kilbride on the launch of his TV show on Sky channel 191 on Thursday October 3rd at 7pm with the show repeated on Sunday evenings at 6pm and on Monday afternoon at 2pm and Frank will feature many local and international artists on his show.

Regretted death

There was widespread regret with the news of the death following a short illness of John Joe Rudden fellow correspondent in the Carrigallen district for the Longford Leader and Anglo Celt. A highly respected resident and a loyal and trusted friend and to his relatives I extend my deepest sympathy. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Gardening club

Ballinagh Gardening Club annual show 2013 was held on Monday night 2nd September in Ballinagh community centre and with ninety four entries in the competitions it was the clubs most successful show to date. The quality of the home grown produce on show was a fitting tribute to gardeners from all over the region who took part and points to a bright future for Ballinagh gardening club. The show was filmed by Cavan TV company and is available on facebook and DVD and the club is now on worldwide web.
