Drumgowna School Reunion: Mixed Grill Night - “Are you in to win at the Big Weigh-in in The Welcome Inn. The grand finale of the Pakie Tom “weight guessing game” takes place in the Welcome Inn, Cornageeha on Sunday night 30th December. As well as seeing Pakie Tom on the scales, you’ll also have a chance to view a well crafted scaled down replica of the school itself before it goes under the hammer, together with some valuable paintings by local artists and other miscellaneous items. Who knows, when you partake of our appetising after Christmas refreshments you might even put on a bid. Tommy and Michael, with local talent, will entertain us for the night- sounds like it will be a very enjoyable party!

Leitrim Guardian: The recently published Leitrim Guardian would make for a great present this Christmas. As usual it is a bumper publication with a wide range of contributions from around the county ranging from short stories, poetry, art and music, historical pieces to various community features. We congratulate Olympians, Colin Griffin and Laura Reynolds who are the recipients of the Leitrim Guardian Person of the Year Award for 2013. Well done to editor, Blaithin Gallagher on another fine book.

Christmas Greetings: I would like to wish all readers of this column at home and abroad and the staff of the Longford Leader a very happy, peaceful and safe Christmas. We welcome home all our Christmas visitors and hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Death: The death took place last week at Aras Carolan Nursing Home, Mohill of Rose McGrath of Aughamore. Her remains were removed from her son Peter’s residence on Tuesday, December 11th and received at St Mary’s Church, Gortletteragh by Rev. John Quinn PP. She was laid to rest after her funeral mass on Wednesday in Gortletteragh cemetery. It is particularly sad to have a mother or grandmother pass to their eternal reward at Christmas time. Rose was a nice, pleasant woman and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. We offer our sympathy to her sons, Peter, Seanie and Martin, daughters Helen and Roisin, daughters in law, sons in law, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.
