Dromod Garda Station Closure: A recent announcement by the Garda Commissioner that various Garda Stations around the country are to close, this included the closure of Dromod Garda Station. Many residents have expressed their anger and dismay that Dromod Village will no longer have a Garda presence. If you want to voice your concerns there will be Petitions in local businesses around the village, please feel free to sign these petitions and they will then be forwarded to the Garda Commissioner.

Carol Singing: There will be Christmas Carol singing this coming Friday at 8pm in Dromod village. Meeting place is at the crib in the centre of the village. Some mulled wine will be served on the night, everyone who is interested in taking part or just watching is more than welcome to attend.

Santa Train: The Santa train will run on Sunday next from 1pm to 5pm at the Cavan Leitrim Railway situated beside Dromod Railway station.

Comedy at the Corn Mill: A comedy play for all the family,” A Matter of Practice”, takes place in The Corn Mill Theatre Carrigallen over the Christmas period. Forget the budget and just relax and enjoy this traditional comedy set in a chaotic 1960s doctor’s surgery. A mixture of murder, mystery, love and delusion make for a hilarious and chaotic nights entertainment. Engaged: We would like to send our congratulations to Miss Avril Shanley, Drumard and Mr David Deering from Wexford who announced their engagement recently. We wish you health and happiness for the future.

Change of Times Community Welfare Officer: A note to hand to let you all know that The Community Welfare Officer will be in Attendance in Dromod Health each Tuesday from 2-30 pm to 3-30pm, this is a change from the original morning slot from 10-30 to 11-30.

Sympathy: We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Rose McGrath, Aghamore, Mohill who died on Sunday December 9th last at Arus Carolan, Nursing Home Mohill. Rose was laid to rest in Gortlettragh cemetery on Wednesday last. May she rest in peace.

Bornacoola Youth Club: This week at The Hive the clubs had another eventful week. The teen group completed their drug and alcohol course with a party on Tuesday night, great fun was had by all. A big thank you from all the members and leaders to Grainne Duignan who conducted the course with them and also a special mention to our own Anne-Marie Boyle who helped her for the six weeks. On Wednesday night the senior and teen club had the second night of music club with Sharon Jones , Ronnie Duignan was unable to attend but assures us he will be back for the next night in January. A music club is also planned for the junior club, dates yet to be confirmed. On Friday night the junior and senior club travelled to Drumshambo to a table quiz where everyone had a great night, thanks to The Base for facilitating it. The teen club went bowling in The Mulvey Centre. Everyone had lots of fun and really enjoyed the night. This week clubs are senior and teen and it is the final one before Christmas. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members, their families and members of parish a very peaceful Christmas and a very happy New Year and look forward to a great year ahead. We will be back on the 11th January with junior and teen club.

Sympathy: We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Joe Reynolds, Blackpool, England and formerly from Esker who died recently in Blackpool aged 93 years. Joe was the last surviving member of the Cloonturk Ceili band. He left Esker for London aged 19 to work as a radio controller in the Marconi Company and later worked until his retirement as an air traffic controller at Blackpool airport. He will be laid to rest in Blackpool on Friday next. May he rest in peace.

Bornacoola gun club: The annual Bornacoola gun club draw will take place on Friday 21st in the Copper Still bar with numerous prizes on the night. Members are currently selling cards for the draw and your support as always is appreciated. 

GOAL: A note to hand from Noel Mahon to let you all know that the 9th annual GOAL mile will take place again this year at the Bornacoola gaa club grounds in Dromod. Again this year Charlie McGettigan will be there as well as Irelands Olympian and Leitrim sports star Laure Reynolds and the O’Neill school of Dancing. There will be entertainment afterwards in The Copper Still with the ever popular Rodeo Man this will be followed by a raffle and a auction, some of the items for auction are signed jerseys from the following counties gaa teams All Ireland football champions Donegal ( a jersey worn by one of the team in the All Ireland final), Hurling champions Kilkenny (Henry Shefflin first ever 9 times winner), Galway hurling team, Kerry football team, Dublin football team, Leitrim football team and Kildare football team. there will be vouchers from Cryans Hotel, Carrick on Shannon, Kilronan Castle, Lough Rynn Castle, Broomfield House Hotel, Sligo Park Hotel, Midweek experience at The Wineport, Glasson. There will be tickets for the Late Late Show, Saturday Night Live, Rose of Tralee and Dublin Zoo. There will be a voucher for dinner in Nevin Maguire’s, restaurant in Blacklion, tickets to Strokestown House, membership to “Aura” leisure centre and many more items. This is always a great success come along and get the New Year off to a great start.

New Baby: We would like to send our congratulations to Nigel and Dara and Cox on the birth of a baby boy called Conor. To the delight of proud grandparents Olive and Eugene Cox and Kevin and Monica Diffley. We wish you health and happiness for the future.

Sympathy: We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Seamus Gallagher, Cavan, Eslin who died on Saturday last at his home. Seamus was laid to rest in Mohill Cemetery yesterday. May he Rest in Peace
