Who wants to be a Thousandaire: Carrickedmond GAA club will hold their major fundraiser for this year “Who wants to be a Thousandaire” on Saturday night next the 20th April in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule starting at 8pm. 
Funds raised on the night will go towards the upkeep of the GAA complex, grounds and pitch. These facilities are used by the Carrickedmond GAA Club, Carrickedmond Ladies Club, Carrick Sarsfields Minor Club and local schools. Tickets are priced at 15.00 euro each and can be got from any committee member or on the door on the night. Eight contestants are picked from tickets bought to play the game show. These eight people will then play for the top prize of €1000 and for other attractive prizes. The club are appealing for all from the parish to come along and support this fundraising venture. If you can’t make the show, you can nominate someone or the committee can pick someone to play on your behalf. All support would be greatly appreciated. Motivational Fitness: A boot camp has commenced in the Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule. This camp takes place on Wednesday night’s at 8pm. Some activities will take place outside weather permitting. The classes are fun, friendly and a great way to burn calories and fat. The classes cater for all fitness abilities. For bookings and for further information call Darren on 0860662781.

First Confession: Children from St Sinneachs national school Colehill will make their first confession in Carrickedmond church on this Wednesday night the 17th April at 7:30pm.

Congratulations: To the Abbeyshrule Tidy Towns group who were awarded the 2013 Special Longford Community award at the Longford Association dinner dance which was held in Moran’s hotel Dublin on Saturday night last. Committee chairman Philip Butler accepted the award on behalf of the Abbeyshrule community. Well done to all in Abbeyshrule on another great achievement.

CADG: The first group of people from the completed their two year re-certification in St Sinneachs hall Carrickedmond last week. The next group will recertify on Tuesday night the 30th April. Car Boot Sale: Legan Parents association are holding a car boot sale in aid of the local national school. This event will take place on Sunday the 21st April from 12 noon at Legan GAA pitch. For further inquires please contact 087-6727850.

Trocaire: If you have not handed in your Trocaire box contribution you are asked to do so before next weekend please.

PTAA: The local pioneer group have planned a trip to the Titanic Exhibition in Belfast which will take place on Sunday the 30th June. Fees for the bus and entry to the exhibition will cost as follows: Adults €30, children under sixteen €23 and children under five €12.50. If you are interested in travelling on this trip money and names must be given to any of the following no later than Sunday the 28th April. Badminton: Congratulations to the Carrickedmond ladies badminton team on winning the league final last week against a very strong Mullingar team. The team on duty was Laura Byrne (captain), Frances Esler, Paula McCormack and Frances Farrell. Hard luck to the men’s team who were Pat Larkin, Pat Egan, Dermot McCormack and Liam Kelly who had to settle for 2nd place after a very good men’s final. The children’s badminton is now finished for the summer. A big thanks to the club chairman Seamus McCormack for all the hours of hard work and patience he put into coaching the children during the year. Also well done to John Dempsey, Paula McCormack and John Dennehy who equally gave great advice to the young up and coming players.

Meeting: The Pastoral group will hold their next monthly meeting in the parish house on Monday night the 22nd April at 8pm. All members are asked to attend.

GAA: The Carrickedmond senior team played their first game in the 2013 Longford senior league on Sunday last when they played Ardagh at home. After a close game throughout which was played in very windy conditions the game ended in a draw. The team play Rathcline on Saturday evening next away in round 2. Good luck to the players and team management for the coming year.

Sincere Sympathy: Is extended to Michelle McGuire and family Clonscotte, on the death of her sister, Christina Brennan, Longford who passed away last weekend following an illness. May she rest in peace.
