Community Games: Well done to all the Ballymahon/Forgney area Committee who helped coordinate and host the U.15 boys and girls Badminton Leinster Finals in the Mercy Secondary School on Sunday 7th April. Ballymahon was one of the 5 venues in Co Longford hosting the winter Leinster Finals. The visiting teams were very impressed with the excellent venue and hospitality provided and the refereeing of the games. Taghmon, Co Wexford won the U.15 girls Badminton Final and Kilcormack/Killoughey, co Offaly won the U-15 boys Badminton Finals. Many thanks to Andrew Fennor and his team of refs for all their excellent work and also the Mercy Secondary School. AREA TRACK AND FIELD DAY: The area track and field day will take place next Sunday 21st April at 4p.m. in Leo Casey GAA Park, Ballymahon. This is the 40th Anniversary of Ballymahon/Forgney Community Games in Longford and we have a special visitor coming on the day so we hope as many boys and girls as possible will turn up and take part. There will be a preschool and U-6 fun race, U-8 to U-16 track events and U-12 to U-16 field events including ball throw, discus, javelin, long kick and long jump. Registration is at 3.30p.m. and events will start at 4p.m.

HALL OF FAME AWARD: Congratulations to Liz Farrell, Mostrim road who has been nominated by Ballymahon/Forgney Community Games to receive the 40th Anniversary Community Games Hall of Fame Award. Liz has been involved with Community Games for over 36 years and has been a dedicated and hardworking committee member at both area, county and provincial (Leinster) level. She has also served positions including Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer in both Co. Longford committee and in our own area. Liz will receive her well-deserved award at the 40th Anniversary Gala Awards Night which will take place in Ballinalee on Friday 7th June. Well done Liz from everyone on the Committee and everyone in the Ballymahon area.

Do you want to learn to Kayak?: Inny Kayakers, based in Ballymahon, will be running beginners courses this Spring/Summer. The first Course will be held in Brannigan Harbour on the 11th and 18th May. If you are interested in learning to kayak in a safe and fun environment then email the group at innykayakers@gmail.com The Courses are aimed at 10 years old and up and will be run by fully qualified Irish Canoe Union instructors. Sympathy: The recent death occurred in New York of Mr Sean Burns, native of Darogue, Ballymahon. Sean who emigrated to America a long number of years ago was a regular visitor back to his home here to visit his family and many friends, he was always a very welcome visitor in the area. We offer our deepest sympathy to Sean’s family in the States and to his brother Toddy and family in Sligo and to all his relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Glee Club: The Local Glee Club (singing, dancing and acting for children) is looking for a volunteer to help out with weekly Clubs. The suitable person would need to be energetic and enthusiastic to learn about and be involved in children’s performance/staging. This would be a great learning opportunity for any young person interested in working with children and who has a passion for singing, dancing, drama or all. Forgney National School: Enrolment of new children for 2013/2014 shall take place until Friday 19th April 2013. Parents/Guardians of children starting in September, please call to the school during that time.

The Gathering: as part of this year’s Gathering, local GAA Officials are organising a special day on Sunday 5th May, which will include a 5k Walk and run, a senior Inter County challenge match attended by the Leinster GAA Roadshow and a number of games for children throughout the day. New Baby: Many congratulations to Serena Rhatigan (nee Farrell) and her husband Paul, Creevaghbeg on the birth of their first new baby boy, Eathon, last week. Wishing Paul, Serena and the new arrival the very best for the future.

Innyside singers: The Innyside Singers have resumed their weekly sessions on Thursday nights at 8p.m. in The Bog lane Theatre. Hopefully there will be full attendances for these last few practices coming up to the Concert in May.

Welcome home: we wish to welcome home Tony Tiernan , Willow Crescent who has returned from his trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. We hope you enjoyed your holiday Tony.

Minor football Club: Ballymahon/Forgney Minor club members wish to thank everyone who supported their annual Grand National fund-raising Draw, to everyone who sold tickets and anyone who helped in any way, it was a great success. Congratulations to the winners: 1st Johnny Dillon, Milltown who won €150, 2nd - Daniel Ziki, Athlone Road €100 and 3rd –Tara Keegan, Mostrim road €50.

Double Celebrations: There was double celebrations for Natasha Farrell, daughter of Joe and Nuala, Creevaghbeg when she celebrated her 30th birthday with her family and friends at the weekend and she also announced her engagement to Jason Rhatigan, Kenagh. Well done Natasha, we wish you lots of good luck and happiness with Jason in the years ahead.

New Arrival: Congratulations to Lisa Teague and Donal Percival, Darogue, Ballymahon on the birth of their baby girl, Kayleigh. We hope mother and baby are doing well. Best wishes to you all for the future.

Welcome home: To Gerry and Sarah Frawley, Brannigan who recently returned from their trip to America visiting their family, we hope you both enjoyed the holiday.

The Gathering: Ballymahon Landevant-Landaul French Twinning committee’s planning is well advanced for the forthcoming visit of our Breton visitors, who arrive in Ballymahon the first week in May. The group of 22 are being hosted by local families and will enjoy a host of organised community events. They hope to see you there.
