All Ireland Success: Congratulations to Cnoc Mhuire who won their All-Ireland Vocational Schools Senior A final on Saturday last in Croke Park defeating the title holders Holy Trinity Cookstown Co. Tyrone by 2.13 to 2.12. A wonderful achievement for all concerned.
Community Playgroup: The group will be holding their Registration Night on this Wednesday 17 April 2013 at 8pm. Rural Transport Programme: On this Friday 19 April the Co. Longford Rural Transport Programme will have a “10 Year Celebration Day” in Granard Area Action Group (GAAG) office to acknowledge all concerned with the success of the Rural Transport Programme since the Initiative in 2003. All are welcome to come along to chat / reminisce and to enjoy a cup of tea and good company! LCRL operates 23 Services on the Rural Transport Programme throughout the County with the emphasis on the “Door to Door” collection Monday to Saturday. Moatsider’s Active Age: We hope everybody enjoyed the Easter Holiday. Our next meeting will take place on this Thursday 18 April at 2.30pm in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. We have many things to organise particularly with the onset of the Bealtaine Festival (details re all activities next week) and our trip to Backstage among others, so it will be a busy afternoon. Motte Community Enterprise: Work continues and our recent public meeting was told that the feasibility study is well underway and expected to be complete by the end of May. An interim report will be ready for our next public meeting. I.C.A.: The Federation meeting hosted by Ballinalee guild takes place in Currycahill Hall on Monday 22 April. Teas will be served at 7.00pm. Federation News: Longford Federation of the ICA have an entrant in the Longford Rose for the Rose of Tralee contest. Suzanne Dooner daughter of ICA member Teresa Dooner Killashee will represent the Federation. The selection night will be held in the Longford Arms on Saturday 27 April so lots of support needed on the night. We wish Suzanne the very best of luck in the competition. The ICA Lotto draw was held in The Stag’s Head in Ballinalee on 10 April. Numbers drawn were 2, 21, 24 and 28. There was no Jackpot winner. Congratulations to the following €20 winners. St. Christopher’s Services: The Granard Branch of St. Christopher’s Services would like to thank all those who generously supported the recent mock wedding. G.A.A. Race Day: The annual Race Day organised by Longford G.A.A. at Punchestown Races is on Wednesday 24 April – Gold Cup Day. Sponsors of the event again this year are RSM Farrell Grant Sparks. This is the 11th year of the Race Day which has become one of the largest corporate events at Punchestown.

World Youth Day 2013: Takes place in Rio de Janeiro from Friday 26 July to Tuesday 30 July. Because of distance and cost to go to Rio de Janeiro an alternative is now available. A link up with the World Youth Day event takes place in Faversham in Kent. It is called Brightlights 2013 and will be held in the beautiful grounds of Aylesford Priory, home to the very welcoming Carmelite Community. With large screen link up with World Youth Day in Rio, live bands catechesis, guest speakers and more this carnival atmosphere will be the next best thing to being in Rio this Summer. It is a great opportunity for young people to experience youth ministry at such an amazing event. It is offered for young people 17-30 years. The cost is €600 approx. Reminder: The 3rd Annual Cycle and Climb to Croagh Patrick for the Parish of Granard Lourdes Invalid Fund, will take place on Saturday 1st June 2013. Last year was a very successful and enjoyable day as over 40 cyclists completed the event while many more people participated in the climb. We hope this year will be equally successful, and there is plenty of time for any aspiring cyclist to fit in the training. A special event to launch this year’s cycle will take place on Saturday 4th May starting at 9am on Saturday morning with a Static Cycle “1500km from Granard to Lourdes” followed by a Fancy Dress Party in John V.
