Duke Park, Stradone. Bailieboro finished in 1st place on the league table having lost just 2 of their 14 games to leave them with 28 points. In contrast Arva won just 9 games and drew 1 game to leave them with 19 points. Bailieboro will be hot favourites to proceed to the final but we urge as many as possible to travel to the game and cheer on the players. With a number of players out through injury this is a big ask of the Arva team but if they are focused and committed they could cause an upset.

Congrats: Congratulations to neighbours Mullahoran on a fantastic win over Kingscourt Stars in the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship Final on Sunday last. Many people felt they had missed their chance in the drawn game but they fought to the finish and probably wanted it that little bit more. The scenes of jubilation that followed showed how much it meant to the entire Parish. Paul Brady shows great commitment to play the game and rightly take the “Man of the Match” Award just days before he takes part in the GAA World Handball Championships in the Citywest Conference Centre, Saggart, County Dublin later this week. We wish Paul continued success and assure him of our support.

Death: It is with regret that we record the death of Mr John O’Reilly, Tycusker, Arva which occurred on 10th September following a short illness. A native of Marahill, Crossdoney, John went to England as a young man and worked for a number of years in the Air Force. Some time later he set up his own company and was involved in laying sports grounds – Equestrian Centres, Tennis Courts, etc. During this time he met and married Teresa Quinn, a native of Boyle, County Roscommon and together they raise 4 children. He was a very successful businessman until he retired and 11 years ago along with his wife he moved back to Ireland and bought a new home in Arva. He was extremely happy during this time as he renewed old acquaintances and made many new friends. He was predeceased by his brother Tommy, Main Street, Arva and is survived by his wife Teresa, daughter Brenda Murtagh, sons Peter, Gerald and Sean in England, sisters Mrs Nellie Mc Carthy, Dublin, Mrs Nancy Brady, Killydoon, Loughduff, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends to all of whom we extend sincere sympathy. His remains were removed from his residence to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva and following Requiem Mass burial took place in Coronea cemetery – Rev Eamonn Bredin officiated.
