SPRING CLEAN: Mohill Community Network will be holding their Spring clean on this Wednesday 24th April at 7pm when the community of Mohill unites to clean up our town and the surrounding roads. Mohill Community Network together with the scouts , Historical Society and neighbourhood Watch. They are at St Patricks Church. Everyone is welcome to join in the clean up. Keep up the good work. WILLIAM F DOBSON: The unexpected death of Willie Dobson at his home on the 14th April 2013 has caused widespread regret in the community. Willie was a loving husband , son brother uncle and most obliging neighbour. An active member of the local community, a noted farmer whose livestock won many rosettes at our local agricultural show where Willie was a dedicated member. He was also a life long member of Fine Gael who together with the show committee formed a guard of honour at St Marys Church Mohill before his funeral service which was conducted by Canon Bill Atkins and was a celebration of Willie’s life. Readings were by Mark Jessica and Kyle and the beautiful singing by Tommy Hand and Church choir added to the solemnity of this very sad occasion. The attendance was representative of all sections of the community who came to bid farewell to Willie and to sympathise with his dear wife Ruth mother brothers sister brother in law, sister in law , nephews nieces cousins and to all who mourn him at this sad time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
LOCAL ACORN PLAYERS: The local drama group the Acorn Players have now completed 22 showings of the Loves of Gabriel Foley to packed halls and appreciative audiences in three provinces. Their last appearance was in Ballintogher in Co Sligo where they played to a full hall and an audience who laughed from the beginning to the end and enjoyed every minute of this hilarious comedy. The acting in this group is very strong and while we have very local actors like Padraig McLoughlin, Annella McGuinness, Margaret Healey, Monica Reilly we also have Nicola Kearns who works in Fenagh Philip Flood who is well known in Ballinamore having worked in Pat Joe Reynolds but a native of Ballyconnell. David Price is actor and set designer and hails from Kilnagross. Maureen Lynch does the make up and backstage. Liz Geoghan is front of house while Tommy Kelleher operates sound and lighting. The troupe is preparing a short sketch for the Gathering at the June Bank Holiday weekend. The Junior Acorns will also be performing that weekend with a sketch written by the same author of the Two Loves of Gabriel Foley, Jimmy Keary.
ENGAGEMENT: We wish to add our congratulations to the many received by Carmel McNulty Eslin bridge and David Gallagher Ballintrillick Co Sligo on their recent engagement. We all wish Carmel and David a very happy life together filled with love and every blessing now and in the future.
LET THE PARTY BEGIN !: ‘Percy’s Party’ is nearly upon us. Chris Meehan will kick start the celebrations on Friday 3rd May at 8pm in the Hunt Hall (opposite library). An exhibition of some water colours by Percy French & other works by other artists will form a part of the official opening. The exhibition will also run from 12 noon to 4pm Saturday 4th May and again during the play ‘The Country boy’ and during ‘Percy’s Party’ on Sunday 5th May. Mohill Amateur Dramatic Society will perform some Percy French sketches as part of the official opening on Friday night along with some performances by Tish Dunleavy and members of the Percy French performing group. Wine reception on the night ! A comprehensive programme of events for the weekend will be published in next week’s Leitrim Oberver.
MOHILL GAA LOTTO: The numbers drawn on the 15th April – 16, 19, 22, 27. There was no jackpot winner. Lucky dip winners were 1st 70 euro Ciaran Baxter Mohill; 2nd 40 euro Maud M O’Brien Mohill; 3rd 20 euro Michael Bohan Funshinagh. The draw on the 22nd April was held in J’s Hotel with the jackpot at 13200 euro. Thanking you for your support.
BORD NA NOG: Bord na nOg are running an 80s disco night fancy dress optional on Sunday 5th May in Js Hotel. Tickets ate now on sale and are available from Paul Murphy or John Curran. We are also proposing to start up an ABC first steps to football programme aimed at our younger age group. Any parents with young children are asked to give their names to Seamus Mitchell or Don Flynn with a view to setting up this new age group.
ROSE DOLAN (BARRY): There was deep regret here in Mohill on hearing of the death of Rose Dolan Coolbawn Mohill who died in the loving care of the doctors nurses and staff at Arus Carolan Nursing home on the 8th April 2013. Predeceased by her husband John many years ago RIP. We all remember Rose and John when they lived at Glebe Street where it was alwaya a pleasure to go to their pub and enjoy their hospitality and the craic. Rose was a kind lovely lady , a great wife sister and good friend. We shall always remember that lovely smile and generosity. Before coming back to Arus Carolan Rose spent many happy years at Kilclare Nursing Home where she was well cared for and respected. Her funeral mass was here in St Patricks Church Mohill and was represented of all sections of the community and the beautiful music added to the solemnity of this sad occasion. Our sympathy is with her nieces nephews cousins brother in law and all who mourn Rose at this sad time. May her dear soul rest in peace.
WEDDING BELLS: Our warmest congratulations go to Bernice Heslin Gortletteragh and Gary McCloskey Bornacoola whose marriage took place in St Marys Church Gortletteragh last week. Following the ceremony a reception for family and friends was held at Rynn castle Hotel where everybody enjoyed a delicious meal and the entertainment that followed. Their many friends join with me in wishing Gary and Bernice good luck good health and every blessing now and always.
ITS A BOY: There was great celebrations in Rooskeynamona when the good news was announced that Kevin and Kathleen Canning Drumshanbo were blessed with a handsome baby boy Joseph. We all wish this bundle of joy a life filled with love and every blessing.
SYMPATHY: Prayers were offered at all masses last weekend for the repose of the soul of Anne Marie Devine nee Moran formerly from Drumrahill Mohill who died in London. To all who mourn Anne Marie we offer our most sincere sympathy. May she rest in peace.
